Default Drivers side outer sills - available gen or repro???

hello all once again

Bit of a sad post this one and one i didnt want to post but i expect most of us have been there at some point but hey ho thats life and what to expect with a 13 year old car. Body kits and skirts can hide a lot and can be good and bad...........

BUT upon removal of my side skirts today the passenger side is mint and totally solid, however the drivers side will need replacing as the screwdriver dissapeared more than once

I would like to replace this with a genuine panel but a repro is fine too as the kit hides most of it and with the amount of dinitrol and waxoyl i have ordered ready to inject it wont rust again

Once again guys any information or help massively appreciated

just please dont ask me for any pics

Mart

As far as i know they are modified standard ones and were never available as a proper panel i know this does not help you much, but you should be able to get a mk5 sill easily and then get a good body shop tp make it fit

Many thanks guys i think im going to get a mk5 sill and make it fit the existing one with some unseen joining but done properly by an expert.

Escortons: i didnt want to look either but needed to take the kit off to paint the floor pan anyway, it cant be helped mate i am genuinely gutted to have to weld this panel on as feel it may devalue my car somewhat but its that or nothing and even though i say devalue i have NO intention of selling it so as long as i know its done properly i shall be happy

Many thanks to you all for posting up in my time of need and mourning

zetecturbo you have pm

Default sills a nightmare

You wont be the only one mate with rotten sills, Mk 5 sill is the right shape its a fucker of a job if ya look closely about 50 mm up from where the floor pan is welded on there is another section spot welded onto the inside of the sill , a decent restoration firm should be able to sort it out

Hope ya get it sorted good luck

Default Hope you can sort it

Hi fella,

Really sorry to hear about the sills, hope you can get it sorted, would be good if you could some pics of this and the stages of putting it right, as no doubt many of us will have this happen to us.

I dread it as am thinking of stripping mine to a shell and doing a full rebuild and repaint from underneath to top, but plan to enjoy for a summer first.

All the best on this.

Gareth.

Will take some pics mate once i get the new panel, ive got welders and body men on stand by this is another one of those areas that i cannot understand why they didnt stone chip it ok yes its going to be covered by a kit but for protection some on there would have been invaluble. Not to worry i'll sort it

Mart once you get it fixed you can take confidence in the fact that it is not doing any further damage and your car is now sound and strong as it should be. I would be more upset about accident damage say to the front end which can move suspension mounts and really effect your car from then on

Anyway good luck with the repair ... now is the time to find and fix this stuff for many more years of happy motoring

Good luck mate.

Cheers guys bit embarrasing really but thats life i suppose . it Just baffles me why theres hardly any sealant or protection on that part of the car. The skirts hide many bad spots, wish id left em on now

no seriously as stated in a post above it will be done properly and look perfect

Thanks mate yeah that's my ride hahah.

Only had it since friday just gone.

I will get some pics up as soon as i get a chance.

Was going to get some sorted today but had to run my niece to Southport at short notice and when we got back it was too dark to take any.

I recon the total lack of any sealer if at all minimal and especially any body guard under the skirts etc was down to one simple thing..cost..

A little bit saved here and there adds up to millions in the eyes of a manafacturer.

Dam shame it is too,you would think they would of gone to town building these as this was there flagship model .But profit rules in any buisness.

Now where the ones who have to rebuild or repair our cars when they start to go.

You won't be the first and you won't be the last to have to sort sills out on what now is essentailly an old car.
But it will be well worth it when you've had it sorted.

I've had mine a few days and love it to bits.I don't care if it falls to bits hahah.

Best of luck with it mate.

Tim

Have you seen escos-jim's thread under restorations. He has used mk5 escort sills and modifed them with the holes for the bodykit fixings.
