1. What are you going to use the car for?

2. Why do you "think" you NEED coil-overs?

Are any available with stainless bodies ?
Sure you can adjust the suspension to handle well and/or give the car a nice stance but from what I've seen they all just rust into a horrible mess after a while

I have seen an advertisement in passionford that had coil overs that didnt rust, but it wasnt an AVO or GAZ coil over.

On the otherhand..can you give an estimate of when they become rusty? After a year or are you talking about 5 tot 10 years everyday use?

I have GAZ on my escos and im satisfied, good handling both on street and trackdays, one problem is if you lower the car the springs are loose when you lift your car.. so if you go for GAZ make sure you get the extra small springs to mount in the top. I try find a pic on my car and show you what i mean.

They feature proper motorsport valving, so work really well on both road and track and come with the best springs money can buy. They have been exstensively tested on both the road, track and at the Nurburgring and use the best quality parts. Mine have been on my car for four years and are still going strong, with no problems with siezing adjusters etc that you get with the cheap ones.

Expensive, but almost the best you can get

I've had them mounted on my previous Escort Cosworth. Superb!

www.autoshopmanders.nl can deliver them

Btw. What Escort Cosworth do you have?? Any pic's?? I saw you have you complete ERST for sale in parts???

I have KONI (yellow) shocks and Eibach (WOLF) springs, Powerflex bushes, and a strutbrace at the front.

I'm quite happy with this Setup

Koni's, Powerflex bushes and Ahmed's track spec springs is all you need then. I would then recommend spending some money at a later date on an adjustable rear beam.

Be aware that if you have 8" x 18" wheels and 225/40 tyres with the standard ET25 offset, you will need to "tweek" the spring cups of the dampers with a big hammer to stop them rubbing on the tyre . Fitting ET15 wheels solves this .

Ah yes ok, so this is another big plus when using coil over springs...together with lowering the car to the exact level you would like it what ever wheel you use and might buy in the future...I still think coil overs are nice to have, but just go for GAZ or AVO so you wont spend too much?!

How about that?

I think that is very poor advice, as the springs that come with the kits you have mentioned are very poorly matched and make the car handle HORRIBLY. Also the adjusters sieze after one bad winter, so it is a complete false economy in my opinion.

Remember...don't lower an Escort Cosworth to much! Otherwise it will cost you a lot of driveshafts and your frontbumper and exhaust don't like speedbumps anymore

I think about 25-30mm is the limit!

Piece of proverbial!

On the road, you run them on the softest settings, and they are MORE compliant than the Konis .

On a dry track you run them on position 7/8 (of 24) on the rear and position 18-24 (of 24) on the front, dependant on the type of corners. You can soon feel how the car is reacting, as 1 click makes a huge difference. If it is a really tight track, then you may need it to be a fraction softer (depending whether you can feel the back end "hopping").

On a wet track, I would recommend running the settings at either the softest or half way between the road and the dry track settings (depending on how slippery the track is). With a wet track, you want the car to roll about a bit to transfer weight to the relevant tyres to provide grip. If it is too hard, it will just slide.

You may well still have problems and will need to tweek the spring cups, as I'ms sure the AZEVs are an 8˝ rim....

cosworth3d - or tweek the spring cups as mentioned!!

Koni's and decent springs is a good suspension setup, and tweeking the spring cup is easy enough to do

Did drive a 3door this summer with gaz coilovers, as Mike sais, the standard springs are badly matched to the dampers, making it a very BOUNCY ride.. springs to hard and rebound to loose.. make the car look like a BMW e30 with 60mm drop springs and standard dampers done 200k miles nodding as it goes by..
