Default Window Tints / Security film.

Has any one tinted their windows or used security film. I've been thinking of doing this as the leather dries out in the sun so you have to treat it every couple of months. The added security would be worth having as well.

I've been quoted £200 for 4 windows but not sure if tinting will look to Chavy.

Any opinions welcome.

I do like tinted windows but only on certain cars. Im not a fan of them on an escos personally.

I think youll find that any tint film is illegal on the fronts (including the ones above), as i found out when i got pulled in my Lexus with the fronts lightly tinted to match the rears. I had to take it to VOSA and they stuck a meter on the glass and had to take them out there and then.

Any window forward of the B post has to let in a minimum level of 75% light, it is not part of the MOT but can get you 3 points and a fine

The light smoke was the one I was looking at. Looks I'll speak to the shop selling it as I don't want to end up having to take it off again if its not legal.
Cheers Guys.

My advice would be...DON'T DO IT, DON'T DO IT, DON'T DO IT!

I wish you'd have said sooner as we could have just swapped glass, took me ages to remove the tints from mine!

With tints:

Without tints:

In the end it comes down to personal preference, so if you like it go for it.

Even light smoke is illegal mate, as is anything other than a factory tint. It just depends on how strict the traffic police are in your area. I remember having to put my windows down every time i saw a traffic car. I was even pulled once late at night and saw it following me, so whipped the windows down. They went round the car with a fine tooth comb and didnt even question why i had my windows down at 2am in the middle of winter.

Thanks for the word of warning , I know the shop may well just want to sell the stuff & not care if its legal.

The tinitng places will more often than not tell you its illegal, or they may put something on the receipt like 'for show use only'. Some may even get you to sign something to cover themselves. Like many things in this country, its totally legal to sell it, and very often to buy it, but illegal to use it.

That does sum it up quite well.

Ok, spoken with a couple of places & the general statement was anything goes on the rear side but best not to do anything on the front. So I'm prob going to go with the Clear security film from Pentagon glass.
thanks for all the responses on this.
