I think it will definately help as the throw in an escort imo is huge and does need sorting. Its not a job for a novice to fit though

Alex, drop the gearbox, and it then sits inside the gear selector cradle.

ive got one, reduces alot of excess play in the gearstick.

My mate done it himself, he's no gearbox expert, i think its how handy are you with your tools.
I was quoted Ł100 + vat to fit a b&m one

if you can drop the box yourself Alex then your more than capable to fit the quick shift knuckle.

it sits outside the box, all will be blatantly obvious when you see the top of the box!!

Nil, it wont be that close for you to make an error.
it just reduces alot of the play and travel.

dont forget the synchro,s struggle at the best of times when you go for a rapid gear change so if you speed the process up you are prone to cause a lot of damge aswell, be carful.

Had one fitted to mine a while back when the box was out.

One of the best things iv done to the car. Every change feels so precise rather than like stirring porridge

i did a write up on how to fit one of these a while ago, can't remember where it is though so if osmeone can find it please

a few things to remember:
quicker to drop the box than do it in situ
remember to be careful when you prise the clips off that hold the selector to the shaft that goes into the box (there are 2 of them and if you break them it's going to be a right pain in the arse to find replacements)
tighten everything up properly, slop in the bolt that you have to lock the washer on magnifies the slop through the stick
change the cradle bushes for poly ones if you can while it's out
don't overtighten the bolts, you'll strip the threads if you do
remember to loctite the bolts for the cradle when you put it back in again, otherewise they can rattle loose

amongst other things
