Default How often do you use yours?

Just before i make the biggest mistake of my life Just thought id see how often you guys use your escorts?

Now this year, there hasnt been much of a summer so my car has hardly seen daylight And ive only been to two shows No doubt it will be put into hibernation soon if i was to keep it.......................

So, do you ever think to yourselves why bother having such a nice car if it never gets used?

I cant take it anywhere incase it gets damaged, i hate the car getting dirty, i never drive it hard

It does seem a bit of a waste mate. I don't use mine all that much, but that's just down to lazyness

If I kept my car at my house, I'd be out in it right now

LOL
Sounds like we're not the only ones having that "problem"

But we sold our previous EsCos because we thought it was silly keeping it as it was hardly ever used. That lasted about 7 months and we got another Cos...
Keep it

I have thought about this as im looking into buying a cossie, the problem is i have no intention to use it unless there is no clouds within a 10mile radius and what im really thinking is it best to buy something else that i can leave outside the house, not really worry about leaving it anywhere, so i know how you lot feel. Can i really justify spending alot of cash on something that im not going to use that much

I have used mine 7 times this year, 5 shows (2 were it rained to nearly biblical proportions) also an MOT and a service at Marks, I just haven't really had the time, I am not so worried about driving it in terrible weather to shows now, as I have got it to a point were in a few hours with a wash mitt and it's mint again.
I thought about selling it a bit over a year ago, but I am so glad I didn't, as I have just got a new job and am looking at a Focus ST for a daily driver so this will fill the Escos shaped gap nicely, as far as I'm concerned as it's bought and paid for it can just sit in the garage till I feel the urge.
Don't sell it, you WILL regret it as you only use it as a toy anyway

Nick DONT sell it! Look at me ive gone and got another!

It wont be worth any less next year or the year after, but you spend Ł20K on an evo now and use it, it will be Ł16K next year and Ł14K the year after! They are AWSOME cars, but do depreciate, whereas the Ecos wont all that much, if at all.

Does it make you smile when you do drive it?

Does it get attention from other road users?

If yes to the above then deffo dont sell!

Nick I was like you with my escort. In the end I was kind of scared to put miles on it and it got fucking ridiculous. Sold it for what I bought it for and got a Focus RS for everyday and to be fair didnt really give a fuck about it, never fell in love with it like the escort. So their are pros and cons to both.
Can you not keep the escort and get something like an evo 3 or 4, they are cheap as these days

To sum up I wish I had never sold the escort

Bigpower will get fed up of his soon anyway, and sell his as he has had it for a few weeks, so will make him an offer lol

if your bothered about all them things buy a saph for buzzing arround in. Virtually same car underneath anyhow.

And saphs are cheap at minute so makes sense.

I got mine at the beginning of June. I've done about 50 miles in her since then.

I knew before I bought it that I wouldn't be driving it when the sun wasn't out and here's why....

Had it out today for a quick spin as the sun was shining:

So no complaints from me as that's life for buying a car in this condition

Regards

lol I'm going to reply in my normal tone here

Why even bother if you are not going to use it??? The whole point of the escort cosworth was that it was a rally car ... Use it, enjoy it, fix it if it breaks, I think some people are bordering on OCD ( no, really!!) when it comes to thier cars, they treat them better than thier kids

The funniest thing I have EVER seen was Nat Day last year, with all the concourse boys running round in a blind panic polishing thier cars in the rain , anyone would think they were going to dissolve and dissapear down the drain. If It ever got to that point I think I would have to question my existance on this planet

And don't get me wrong, but really, whats is the pleasure of having a polished car underside?
Cars were meant to get wet and dirty, go out and drive your car, your garage could collapse overnight and destroy your car, life in one big uncertanty.

ITS ONLY A CAR, IT IS INSURED IT CAN BE REPLACED live life a little

I think all people with cars like this no matter what make have to decide what that car is to them. To me they fall in to one of these catagories:

Investment (kept in garage & hardly used, polished to within an inch of its life),
Hobby (Spend far too much money on but it doesn't matter as its a hobby & not worried about resale),
Daily driver (bare min spent but get used as it was meant to) .

Its when to try to mix all of them together it becomes an issue. You just need to decide what you want the car to be.

I still can't decide what I want from mine

M.A.D.RST Thats the thing when your car is in a better condition than when it left the factory mate, i dont think i would use it if it was in concours condition either. I use mine every day for six month's in summer and have a little imperial blue fiesta zetec s to use for six month's in winter time, the Escort has to go out every day in rain or sunshine for work, but its so so good using it every day mate, you really get your moneys worth out of the car, just the grin factor! i spend hour and hours cleaning it to keep it right and people think im really mad, but it would be to much to do if it was painted underneath ect, but cars like yours is on another level mate, You cant use it as worried about putting miles on it, You cant drive them hard for fear of stone chips on the front end and all the painted bits underneath ect. I woud say sell it and buy a nice, clean, average miled Escos you can use when you want to mate without fear of ruining it, Unless you couldn't live with a Escos that wasn't upto the same standard as yous is now mate. I hardly use mine, and i use it even less now ive got a bike. Probably done about 150 miles at the most in it this year, and that going out in it half a dozen times.

Ill never take it out if theres any grey clouds about , as the undersides all done so once out in the rain and it'd mess the floor up.

I must admit ive considered selling mine a few times this year due to me never using it, but when i take it out round the block, i come to my senses and decide otherwise.

i use mine whenever the mood takes me, rain or shine i'm not bothered, its not gonna melt if you get it wet you know plus it gives me an excuse to clean it again. the only time i wont use it is during the winter when the roads are covered in salt n grime.

its a car that was built to be driven, get it out & get it dirty ffs you never know you might actualy enjoy it

I think most of it comes down to what you actually buy in the begining. I take stick all the time for not using mine, but it,s only got 24.5k on it. If i had bought one with more miles on it i,d use it a lot more, but you get into the frame of mind being scared to use it because of the low miles on it.

M.A.D.RST, out of interest mate, is your car TOTALLY chip free as ive heard a few people say its one of the best.

If it is, then i totally understand you not wanting to use it, especially if the undersides done too.

If you use it, even every now and then like me, your going to pick the odd stone chip up on the front end, or the wing lips, side skirt section and rear bumper bottoms. Ive picked up one or two since ive had mine since i bought it 2 years ago and ive only done 1500 miles at the most in it. I was gutted at first but soon realised that it cant be helped and its nothing that a Ł500 blow over wont sort out though.

If yours really is totally chip free, then i assume its not the original paint on 33k anyway, so a quick blow over and its back to how it was again. And if the undersides not detailed, then its really no biggy if it gets a bit dusty. Mine was done a few years ago, and it does get dusty underneath admittedly but its nothing a quick wipe down doesnt sort out.

Having said that, mines not as good as the white one above, , and if i owned that id probably use it even less.

Exactly but then you have to tthink to yourself, why do I keep this car, so a few people on passionford know ive got a mint car I never use, or am I just keeping it mint for the next owner to enjoy.

Correct me if im wrong but the car has had a front end respray and is not shiney underneath, just waxoyled to death I would presume
