Suspension Set Up

Suspension Set Up
Hi All
I'm thinking of fitting Coil-Overs to my Escos, plus an adustable rear beam and compression struts and adjustable Track Control Arms to the front. This is all to get the steering and suspension geometry correct when the car is lowered.
Can anyone give me a good starting point for spring strengths for the springs. I dont want to go too hard as I have 18 inch ATS wheels fitted and poly bushes all round.
Next problem will be the front Anti-Roll bar. If I fit compression struts I obviously lose the Anti-Roll bar (unless anyone knows different). Any suggestions what I should uprate the front springs to, to compensate losing the Anti-Roll bar ?.
Last any recommendations as to whose Coil-Overs to use, anyone fitted them got any feedback.

As Jon said look on ebay for a set of bilies, from what i have heard for road use your better with gravel springs as the tarmac set up can be a bit harsh.
Pm Mike Rainbird he did a good section in one of the mags about this recently, im sure he said if its a road car dont go for compression struts as the springs you would have to run to compensate would be real harsh.
Ps. Yours isnt the white car that was in at ava a few weeks ago is it?

Hi Neil
yup thats my car, I was reading on AVO's site that coil - overs won't fit on the rear. That can't be true as I have heard of several car fitted with them, is any modification required to fit the rear coil overs.
Neil any idea what magazine the article you mentioned was in, I'll try and get a back issue if you can tell me the month/issue.

Coilovers will fit on the rear you need to mod the inner arch at the seam slightly(with a hammer) as the spring platfrom and spring sits rel close and can catch. Im running gaz coilovers on mine and dont have any problems.
I can mind what issue it was but pm mike and he will give you the details.
I was in with my mates S1 when you picked your car up. Sounds like a nice spec, similar to what im getting built justnow. Alan was saying it made good power and drives real nice.

Hi Neil
everyone on here said BD10 inlet and BD14 exhaust won't work and will make rubbish power. Even Alan was dubious , piper cut me 2 cams they had used for grasstracking that they said would drive well and produce over 400 bhp.
At the moment I'm happy with it as it drives great which is what I wanted.
Its hardly been used since I bought it new, I had it lowered and Spax shocks fitted, but its bottoming out now and is a pig to handle with the power. Hence I'm looking to sort out the suspension and steering geometry. Had a hard fight holding off an Evo only because it handles so bad.
