Information on wheels
Just want some advice.
I ordered a set of 18" Rondells the other day.
Today they were delivered but on the alloy they say engells and the
centre cap says Rondells.
What does the engells mean and are they the genuine Rondells.

Hi mate, i think this is the case and im sure i will be corrected if wrong, Rondell stopped making them a few years back and another company bought the presses/moulds and rights to make them and started remaking them, same wheel i think just diff name on them. The company you bought them off mate will probably just be buying Rondell centre badges separatly and fitting them instead of the Engells ones that will come with the wheels. Hope this helps. Mark

Rondell made the 122 design originally, then sold the mould to Engle. Engle then stopped making them and Rondell now have the mould back, but due to costs etc they are producing them with the Engle logo?? Apparently would cost too much to re produce another mould saying Rondell!
Cossymad can clear this up, but thats what i heard?

OK here's the story again...
Rondell and Engels are the same wheel.
Rondell did not make them, Borbet did, they designed it and sold it exclusively to Rondell. They also make some wheels for Azev too.
The 122 was a design that was flawed and so many returns due to too soft aluminium causing them to bend like chocolate fire guards. Rondell decided to drop the 122 from the range. Then Borbet sold the rights to the mould to someone who copied the similar name of Rondell- engel instead. The mould was modified to produce a stronger wheel, and had the logo of Rondell removed, and Engel put in. The aluminium was also slightly changed to avoid the Andrex like quality of the 122 (smooth and soft). Now Rondell got the hump with Borbet, but Borbet said F U mother F**kers and a better wheel was sold. Engel then did not pay their bill, and Borbet said right you 2 nosh heads we are going to sell ourselves, with Rondell centre badges, and engel stamped on them, cause we can't be arsed to modify the useless tooling anymore. The Engells had less problems than the Rondells, although they still were not perfect. We bought the last batch a year or so ago, and I believe wheelbase still have a few of their's left. I sold all mine in 3 days
The wheel as far as you have been sold is not fake or inferior to the Rondell 122, if anything, it is better, although purists seem to think otherwise.
They look the same, they smell the same, they were made in the same bloody factory, in the same mould!!!

Mine are engels. Looks like us engel owners have got the better of the two then according to the above.
So engels are the quality ones, and rondells are the crap ones made of monkey metal. .......to the rondell owners who call ours fake!!!

iv'e had both rondell & engels, the engel is the better wheel of the two, better paint finish, centre caps fit better & stronger than rondell though it is still a soft wheel, so avoid pot holes

Hi. Another question.
Put on the Engels and there is a slight shuddering at the steering wheel.
What is this caused by and has any one else experienced this.

1. Wheels need balancing...properly.
2. You left the disc retaining clips on. Check where the studs come out.
3. They need spigot rings.
4. The rings supplied are the wrong size (need to be 63.4-63.5mm ID)
