i cant really say too much as i dont own one still own a saff but i did take out a friends esc cos the other day.i have to say if im honest i have always said if i was to spend that sort of cash i would get a white rs500 as thats what ive always loved.but after taking his car out i was suprised at the way she handled compared to my 4x4 saff.i thought they would be similar, boy was i wrong!
i will say i do love the look of the escort but it has to look tough for me.alot are pretty looking

my story starts in 1980 a mate bought a new rs2000 mk2 V55KVU he was a mechanic at quicks the local rs dealership, that car has stuck in my mind through all the mk3 and 4 and beyond.I watched the local police with there cosworths and decided to buy one but twenty six thousand pounds was a lot of money for a new one so i bought a new mk6 rs2000 aug 96, as i drove out of t c harrison in sheffield they had two brand new escos in there underground pound i knew then i had bought the wrong car and decided to save for one which i got in 1998 and paid £25000 anyway for a two year old car. i still have the rs2k which i dont use and has only done 8500 miles. The smile factor still remains
whoops got carried away sorry

Bought mine 'cos I wanted 4 wheel drive + an engine that was built to survive (in comparison with tmy Golf G60's abortion). Couldn't afford an EVO 6 (the 1st Evo properly available in Germany) so the Cossie won by default.
I notice the Evo's have dropped into my price range now but I just don't want 1 anymore.
'cos the Cossie hasn't lost & 'cos it'd miss me I reckon.

The more turbos,more fun!
Very interesting read guys.
Ive got a massive itch to buy one at the moment, money aint the problem its just trying to insure the bloody thing.
The appeal for me is that japcrap is reliable and drives really well but you just dont get the old skool look from jap cars.
Plus remember seeing one years ago and thinking damm that looks awesome!
It could of had a 1.0 engine in it for all i care (be easier to insure like) it was just the in your face looks that did it for me.

Always been a dream to have one, and now that I finally got a well paid job I bought one. And it's the worst car I've ever had. Totally crushing my dream. I keep finding little faults with it. Not sure if I'm returning it or rebuilding it. I fooking hate the car.

PassionFord Post Whore!!
I love the look of them, but as a few have said the 4x4 puts me off.
Was very tempted for a ST one as a daily car and have my Sapph as a toy when shes finished

I have always loved the Escos, I saw one when they first came out and
thought WOW !!!
but i have always been a Sierra Cossie man !
Had to be 2wd as 4x4 was for girls...lol.
Mine was really bought on a wim, the mrs was looking thru auto trader one
day and spotted the escos....
I still had the saph at the time, but it was a good price so went to look at
it...........and........... oh dear !.. soon as i drove it, i had to have it
I had to wait a week before i could go back and collect it, i trailored it
back as i was nto sure on the spec, and wanted to check it over 1st.
I absolutely love it now!..... I even broke the saph to help pay for the
mods to the escos...... I am building it back up to a better spec than the saph ever was..
After owning a escos, i dont think i would ever buy another saph or sierra i love it wayyyy to much..
Al..

Unless an escort cossie is easier to insure

My story is a little different to most that have been posted.
So, back when I was 23 (only 26 now) I was living life precariously with 9 points on my driving licence and was driving around a Mk IV Golf diesel (GTTDi 115). Unfortunaltly one night after a row with an ex-girlfriend I was storming back down the motorway and unknown to me I was being followed by an unmarked cop car. Eventually after I had pulled off the motorway he finally caught up with me and gave me a right bollocking and showed me the in car video of me doing 120mph plus down the outside lane. Fortunately tho my average was only 98 (due to traffic).
So the day came and I appeared in court and was handed 5 more points to my 9 thus making me lose my license for 6 months.
I sold the Golf for £10k and started to save up and up for a new car during the six months.
Insurance was going to be the killer, and that ruled out anything imported or twin turbo, (so bye bye Skyline's, Evo's, Supra's etc) and I didn't want a Subaru either.
So my attention turned to, were else, Ford!!
I eventually managed to blag the owner of an Escort Cosworth to take me for a ride, little did I no what was to come......
Sat in the passengers seat, awaiting nervously for a quiet stretch of road ahead, he eventually floored it, it was only stage 3 at the time the car, but my God it was fast, nimble and responsive!
I wanted it then. We managed to talk over the next few weeks, and a figure was agreed. A week later I had bought the same Escort that I had sat nervously in.
Since that day I drive it with a smile on my face knowing that I'm driving an icon of a car, that deserves respect where ever it goes.
Also - since buying the Escort, guess how many points i have on my license???
The answer is zero!
I love the car now, so much so I put buying a house off because I couldn't come to sell the car for the funds. But now I have managed that too.
Cosworth - its a part of life!

Cheers guys.
Maybe tho Darren it is the fact that I have mellowed out in my mid twenties, or the fact that my right foot is still heavy and I do "get lucky" from time to time
