the front spoiler/spliter saga................
for over 2 years now i have heard that people are remaking the upper splitter, i know theres been a few problems with the designs but i thought someone would have mastered it by now!
i've been speaking to someone who deals in trim parts, making plastic door cappings, giving parts a carbon fibre coating etc, i explained the escos bumper spoiler problem to him to see what he thought, he said its not something he could do but he has a fella who makes lots of tricky plastic parts for him, he is going to speak to him about possibley making a batch of the spoilers, he said the biggest cost is the tooling cost (setting up mould etc) but this would be made a lot cheaper by using a good condition spoiler as a mould base.
I explained that it has to be a flexible plastic like the origonal so it dosn't crack as soon as clips something, he was asking if it would be cost affective to do & if people would be happy fitting a non-genuine Ford part, i told him gen ones are no longer avalable & the problems with the carbon cracking.
if they were good good enough i don't see why people wouldn't fit them, as long as they wern't silly money, if they were priced close to the gen ones (about £130 + vat) i'm sure people would buy them.
i've left it with him for a while hoping he can come up with something, even if it means doing a big oreder to start with.
The only thing that puts doubt in my mind is the fact that other peopl have not reproduced them already

If somebody could find out from Ford who supplied the original part we might be able to contact them & ask them if they still had the original injection moulds & if so, how much they wanted for them.
This solution has got to be cheaper than getting a new mould made 'cos that will turn out to cost 10s of thousands, ie, what it cost Ford orginally + some extra for inflation & some more 'cos we won't be getting any discount for being a massive customer.
& that's without considering the costs involved in actually getting an injection moulding firm to stop their real work for an hour or so to produce some of these parts for us.
So, in an attempt to sound at least a bit optimistic, does anybody know anybody who worked in the Ford purchasing dept in the early to mid 90's?
