I disconnected mine and connected to a mkII golf 16V module, the car still start, I haven't tried driving it, but I noticed that VAG's ignition module fits the escos, are they interchangable? I'm planning to have a coil pack conversion and it needs two module, if they are all the same then I can save a bit and just use my mate's apare

 

i am keeping an eye on this post they will be easier to get here in OZ as well (if they fit)

It may go bang, your ECM may go bang or it may work!!
Most ECM's work on similar voltage/resistance as do any sub ignition circuits.
