Default Switch from T34 to T38

Im thinking of switching from my .55 T35 to a T38, those of you that have made this switch what are the pros and cons. When does it make boost ect...
Other thing i thought about was going back up to a .63 housing would this be a simple bolt on job to my T35 if i could find a housing.

fitting a .63 housing is a very simple job.

as for the T38 it would depend on what variant you would be opting for.

TT T38 or UT T38?

i run a turbo technics T38 8.2:1 comp BD 14s knife edge crank and it makes boost at 3300rpm, not much more than my old T35.
drives nice, go for it if your engine is up to it you wont look back

Kelv i take it switching the housing is just a case of removing the turbo and switching the rear housing, just wasnt sure if impellors were the same.

No sure on which t38 to go for, looking for a solid 400 bhp mibi a bit more but as little lag as possible.

Neil, yep its that easy, impellors are the same, just undo the 6 bolts holding the exhaust housing on and it will come of, although may be a little stubborn to seperate.

Both Variants of the T38 are good turbos providing your engine is spec'd to handle them.

have you had any head work done atall?

Kelv not much head work done just matched inlet manifold and a light bit of flowing, standard v/v's. Im running 7.2:1 ,greys, balanced bottom end, isky v/v springs and bd10's made its peak power at 6500 at the weekend.

Dependant on the size of your head ports as to wether you could go for the TT T38, if they are a little to small you may suffer some turbo surging.

but as for the UT T38 - you'll have no problems if the ports are mildly smaller or even standard.

i had a TT T38 and it surged like a bastard, switched to the UT T38 and had no issues, was on greys with air to air injection, comp ratio of 7.7:1 and was set up peaking at 36psi and holding 32 perfectly. felt like a steam train but never had it on the rollers.

was hitting full boost at about 3400rpm which isnt to bad compared to the T34.63's

initially set up by steve scott at A1 Rally sport - still have the chip and pectel board here for it but its on a L8.

Then went for an MSD chip with closed loop lambda etc and it was set up by mark shead - both times set at 36psi with no detonation and clean all the way thru the rev range.

UT T38 is certainly good enough to see you over 400bhp.
certainly speak to your tuner first tho and see what he recomends for your engine and go from there - but id go for the UT T38 everytime - but only from personal experience
