Default What Oil Pressure?

When i start it first its sits at about 4 bar. Then at normal temp while driving its around 3 bar. If i'm stuck in traffic with the fans on at idle it sits just above the red at the end of the curved bar on the gauge. Is this right ?

oil pressure should be 5 bar from cold and min 1.8 bar when hot at idle.

again what oil are you using? it may be to thin

stick to 10/40 although i use mobil 1 motorsport 15/50 and it makes the liffters ratte a bit on overrun only during the warm up stage but i am looking at changing it again.

The idle was as standard, Just under the thou. I fitted a new grp a head gasket recently, New tappets. Got the head tested. The guides are slightly worn but i was told it isn't worth changing them. Should i try another oil?

I'll try Mobil 1 motorsport. Its a bit heavier than Castrol RS. See does it make a difference. I was also advised to check the oil pressure with an independant gauge. The banana pod one could be out of sync (just like my fuel gauge)!!

Mobil 1 15w50 is only thicker when cold, the RS 10w60 would be thicker when hot.Which is when hot you mention the pressure looks low.
I change over to Silkolene pro 10w50 & that is ment to be a far better synth oil than the other 2.
I would of thought as long as its witin the band on the pressure gauge it should be fine.Only an issue if it drops below that.

True ECOS95. I put in Mobil 1 motorsport and it made no difference when hot. I spoke to my buddy today, he's a mech and has a saff. He reckons the sender unit is faulty, as if the needle dropped out of the framed section the oil light would come on. Thats set for about 7psi/.5bar. I'll check it with an independent gauge and change the sender unit if neded.

I also found Castol RS made the tappets noisy when cold because it was too thick. It had better pressure when hot than Mobil 1 but thats to be expected due to the higher raiting.

I'd recommed the silkolene, its made a huge difference in mine & the car has only done 49K.The engine is alot quieter when cold & has good pressure when hot.
Good luck.

Chris.

I have mobil 1 motorsport and its great, lifters are noisy when starting from cold but soon warm up, i get 4 bar when driving along as normal conditions and it rarely moves from there even when fans kick in. I can honestly say my oil pressure has never gone near the red.
