Getting the most out of a small turbo
What parts would be involved?
Not opening up the bottom end
And not changing the ECU
cams? T28?
And with what mods what bhp/lbft should be attainable

rene, cossy mad got a REAL 300bhp + usinf cams, our turbo is already a t28 but their is hybrid versions which will be stronger and hold more boost than the already overworked standard t28 unit!! im going down this route soon, cossy mad managed 150mph + and 4.7 to 60!!! very quick, on prob is our turbos run out of puff at the higher end of the rev range but its a sacrafice im willing to take for the much better drivability

Yes cossymad is using a McCain chip and cams he was selling a few weeks ago ...
what cams should we have then? ..drivability is good with a ST but it like a bit more punch as the fooker is heavy as well LOL cams is easy to install and not too expensive so
i have no intend to convert to a large turbo unless the fooker blows up in style LOL

Mines around the 300bhp mark. Well i actually have a print out for 322bhp that was done at Well Lane a couple of years ago, but as we know 300 seems to be the limit so obviously its over-readed on the dyno. A few have said Well Lanes rollers are bad for that.
Mines got turbotechnics hybrid and water injection. The previous owner did mention it had cams, but i cant find a receipt for this. Although the graph of 322bhp seems high, its still got to be around the 300 mark i would have thought.

Yeah it does feel pretty quick mate. It does seem to back off at the top end of the rev range a bit, obviously unlike the BT, but it gets there quick enough. Driving round town is perfect with hardly any lag whatsoever, which is what i love about the ST. Totally different car in my opinion.

GGR305 chip, holding at around 1.3-1.4 bar.

i can do the headwork meself but rather not go further at this point then removing the cam cover and stick cams into it (i can do that before the missus gets home so i wont get caught )

Cossymads is certainly quick, although it felt very very slow on uphill sections of the Ring. I think my perspective was very much altered though by the fact this were my first laps of the Ring.

all this for, if your lucky, 300bhp when you got a bigturbo route and some grens which bring you way over 300bhp...i just don't understand...
and dont come with the lag thing....or is it the money....the stuff you need for a small turbo for 300bhp doesnt come cheap either

mine has a graph for 298bhp/320lbft @ powers... but how acurate this is i'm not too sure mine goes well and peaks about 1.2-1.3 BAR...
it feels good but as said top end revs its slow i'm now booked in with MAD for a 340-350bhp autronic SM4 conversion using high flow inj and custom loom and cdi direct fire and a stg3 T34 with .48 housing...
shall cost a bit but then the sky is the limit, in my view why limit yourself get the best out of the car by spending a little extra and doing things right... agreed the 300bhp can be hit on ST as a few of us have but you then ON the limit and as someone prev said it then costs alot to convert to LT when you just spent £££ getting to 300bhp
just my 2p's worth
or feel free to buy my SMC2 ecu i have for £700
