Default HELP re buying a escort cossie

Lads

please can you offer your advice, im seriously looking at a escort, its been on ebay and the owner seems very decent

here is the spec :-

--------------
1994 Group N Ford Motorsport shell with welded in full 12 point rollcage with door bars & removeable diagonal
(it was originally built as a Group N rally car, but was never rallied. It is a Q due to it being built from a brand new Motorsport shell & donor parts). The V5 registration document states "Ford Escort RS Cosworth".

Jondel Race Engines built blue top stage 3 engine (around 350bhp!) less than 36,000 miles, full service history, fully synthetic Castrol RS oil changed approx. every 5,000 miles.
Garret T4 hybrid turbo with 360 degree thrust bearing & cut back blades (adjustable boost)
Coopers ringed block
uprated gearbox (bearings & selectors)
P8 ECU with Collins piggyback board & Evolution Stage 3 chip (mapped by Kenny at Motorsport Developments, Blackpool)
3 Bar map sensor
Group A fuel pump
Bosch 803 green injectors
GGR blue silicone hoses (air & water)
K&N 57i cone air filter
AP Racing competition clutch

Alloy bits:
Spec-R alloy cam belt cover
Spec-R alloy header tank
Spec-R Group A alloy oil separator/breather
Spec-R Group A alloy dump valve

Brakes:
Wilwood Superlite 4 pot 325mm front brakes
grooved discs all round (drilled discs crack under extreme heat!)
EBC Green Stuff rear pads
Ferodo DS2500 front pads
Goodridge braided brake hoses all round

Koni adjustables suspension (with adjuster) with Eibach 25mm lowering springs
full stainless steel 4" single silencer exhaust (no cat = more power!)
Foglight grilles (better cooling to engine bay)
Escort Cosworth Monte solid alloy gearknob
8x18 ET15 Compomotive MO 6 spoke Motorsport alloy/mag wheels
235/40 18 Michelin Pilot tyres (rear)
235/40 18 Falken FK451 tyres (front) all 4 tyres done less than 2000 miles!
Powerflex bushes all round
Blitz digital turbo boost & turbo timer
twin Cibie headlight conversion (100w mains)
PIAA silicone wipers
Sparco alloly pedals
Momo 330mm steering wheel
I've got a front lower splitter that isn't fitted that I'll include (very easy to fit, but it's very low when fitted!) & also the parcel shelf with 2 6x9 speakers

Safety:
The shell is extremely strong due to the welded in full roll cage with door bars, it is a 12 point cage with front & rear suspension points so fitting coilovers won't be a problem if you wanted to (you need strengthened suspension top mounts for coilovers)
Sparco FIA spec seats
Sabelt 4 point harnesses
Lifeline plumbed in extinguisher with in-car & bonnet pulls
hand held extinguisher
twin Famm air horns
bonnet pins
locking wheel nuts
4 Hella lamp pod with 100w bulbs (work off main beam switch & can be turned off separately by switch), proffesionally wired with 2 relays! This is easily removed in less than 3 minutes (if you know how!) if you don't want it fitted!
Tracker fitted & working!

Full 3M vinyl decals (1994 Monte-Carlo winning Escort Cosworth-Francois Delecour). These can be removed simply by heating up with a hairdryer & peeling off.

Has been Waxoyled & always run on Shell Optimax & Casrol RS 10W 60 fully synthetic engine oil. Also it has been polished & waxed (Autoglym) a few months ago & comes up like new with just a bucket of clean water & a sponge!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a very reluctant sale considering the amount of money I 've spent on it in the last 11 months, I was intending on keeping it for a few years but with a baby on the way I have to be a sensible I suppose (it's not worth the ear-ache!)!

Please note, I am no "boy racer" & am a 38 year old experienced driver with a (believe it or not!) clean license & have not been thrashing around town in it, what you do with it is up to you, but it is a very capable car!!

I was hoping to put it in for some shows this year as it is a very good reproduction of Ford Motorsports 1994 Mont-Carlo winning Escort Cosworth driven by Fracois Delecour & Daniel Grataloup & is the only one in existance as far as I know so it is totally unique & one of a kind. Unfortunally I never got around to it due to too much time devoted to work & not enough to play & now with a baby on the way I've got no chance!
As you can see from the pics this really is the ultimate head turner (& child scarer!!), it chatters & pops like a lunatic........... the car, not the child! It goes as good as it looks!
The decals were only applied 6 months ago so have a good 5-6 years left before they start to detereorate. If you wanted to remove them you can easily- just heat them up with a hairdryer & peel them off!
I have plenty more pics, if you are really interested in buying I'll email you some more.

I have owned the car since 11th September 2003 & paid £11,570 (receipt to prove) for it from a garage owner who used it as an advertisement, his family owned it for around 5 years before me, & another garage owned it before him, hence the low miles, it had 27,000 on it when I bought it & has 36,000 now (I've done 9,000 in the last 11 months!).

It is very reliable & starts on the first turn every time, cold or hot.............. & the handling/performance is in the supercar league, believe me (I owned a 380bhp BMW M5 before this!)!

The back seats are still fitted (with seatbelts) & are useable as the removeable diagonal is not fitted.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since I have owned it the following parts have been replaced brand new (prices as I remember):
track rod ends (2)
track control arms (2) (£140)
outer trailing arm bushes (2) (£130)
o/s/f wheel bearing
o/s/f hub
o/s engine mount (£70)
Koni adjustable suspension & Eibach 25mm lowering springs all round (£520)
radiator fan switch
Collins piggy-back ECU board (£145)
Evolution chip (£150)
Engine management setup (£170)
Hydraulic tappets (£240)
rocker cover gasket
Cometic inlet gasket (£74)
front prop shaft (£250)
rotor arm
coil (£45)
distributor cap
screw in towing eye
front 225mm grooved brake discs (2) (£250)
Ferodo DS2500 front brake pads (£75)
Greenstuff rear brake pads (£50)
wheel studbolts, locking wheel nuts & wheel nuts
clutch rachet & bushes
Sabelt 4 point harnesses (£115)
PIAA silicone wipers (£36)
Sparco pedals
Bumper (foglight) grilles (£165)
Calcium battery (£65)
Compomotive MO wheels (£700) Bought from Martin Hadland (Reyland)
tyres (4) (£500)
Full 3M vinyl decal set (£450 fitted!)
Cibie twin headlight conversion (£320)
Hella lamp pod (£380)

I have also had the fuse box re-soldered, a common problem with Escort Cosworths!

I have bills for over £4,400 (parts actually cost over £7,000-can't find some receipts, sorry!) to prove work carried out & parts supplied in the last 11 months, no expense has been spared as long as I've owned it!

I also will provide the following:
around 70 pics of the car I have take showing work done (on CD)
around 25 good quality pics (on CD) of the genuine L730 ONO car from Ford Motorsport themselves!
email address if you need to replace any decals (top guy!)
various emails regarding the car
Copies of posts on Passionford, RSOC, Scoobynet & Interford about the car
Any other info I can find on my PC
Folder of bills & receipts (including one for over £3,000 from Castle Performance Engineering & one from Motorsport Developments, Blackpool for £400, only been worked on by the best!)
Tracker paperwork & installation certificate
Alarm/immobilser installation certificate for insurance purposes
Vehicle inspection letter detailing build quality
all old MOT certificates
Original owners handbook & stamped service record book

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Every honest car auction would not be complete without a "Bad Bits" paragraph, so here goes:
small crack in windscreen (not in line of view so not an MOT fail)
small bubble in paint above o/s/r arch (not broken paint)
small tear in drivers seat about 50p size
rear window washer doesn't work
small spot of rust on bottom of rear hatch about size of 1p!
(I have a brand new kevlar rear hatch I was going to fit but never got around to it which you can have by separate negotiation.)

Please note this car DOES NOT have ABS (it is fitted, but has been diabled), electric windows, central locking, sunroof or air con as it is a Motorsport model........ it does have a £400 Pioneer tuner/cd player though!

It will be sold with 12 months MOT & 7 months road tax & with at least enough Optimax to get you to the nearest Shell petrol station! It has just been MOT'd & only needed a n/s/f driveshaft gaitor.

It is guaranteed HPI clear as I checked it when I bought it & I paid cash for it, but you can check if you like (reg: Q121 VOG) no worries!

--------------------------------

can you gents give me your opinion

and can you tell me about common faults

also is this tuning set up good ???????

also do you think it will be making 350bhp ?

many thanks Glen
