Default Soding bloody voltmeter :wall:

Ritey,

Just got back from Le Mans in the cos, awesome drive to say the least, some very very nice cars etc about there...
And now the voltmeter wants to play silly buggers....
It seems to vary its reading anywhere between 14v, and can go as low as an indicated 10v.
However, the battery light never comes on, and according to my volt meter, i'm getting neigh on 14 ish volts at the bat all of the time anyhow.

Any ideas where to start looking?
The weird thing is, if the voltage looks low, i can around 50% of the time put my window up or down, and it will climb back up to normal!
Don't you love shonkey old escorts!

Cheers

I would go for main ones in engine bay first, then those by fuse box and inertia switch, then take clocks out..

All I can say is 'best of luck' trying to sort this.

Have been trying to sort same sort of issue out on my car for ages.

Hopefully the issue will be resolved this week....

That could compound the problem even more.... it was my SECs that picked up that I have a voltage problem. I've had a new battery and alternator fitted and SECs read even lower then

I'm not say the SECs is the problem though btw.... it's just that it is far more detailed than the standard volt meter gauge the Escos has and therefore, picks up even more fluctuations in voltage readings.

Rich, it happened to me once, I put my fluke across the battery whilst driving a long and it read a healthy 13.2v whilst the gauge read 8 or so. The gauge then corrected itself and it never happened again. Obviously its decided to do it again. Karl Norris told me it was a common problem with the gauge.

Paul- yeah, when i borrowed my bro's voltmeter it reads 13.8 -13.9 when driving, so all is well there - gota love escort's at times

I'll have a play around at the weekend with the earths etc...- from searching on various forum's it does seems pretty common!

I thought anything over 13 was healthy Dave, especially on a 12 volt system
