Bubbling header tank?
Took my car out today and didn't drive it like an idiot but did give it some welly on a couple of country roads.
When I stopped I noticed the header tank was bubbling-a lot- I heard it in the car - dont remember it doing this before (could have been as I havent driven it for ages)
There isn't excessive pressure in the tank as the cap will undo easily and steam doesn't burst out, in fact it didn't even hiss when opened. There is just loads and loads of air going back into the tank via the top tank hose-only lasts a few minutes then dies down-is this normal please like I say it could be but seems excessive and dont remember it doing it before.
ps fans are working

hey mate
difficult to say...but it seems like a head gasket failure.get it to a workshop and get them to check the compression.or/and check the cooling system ,pressure test it.they put pressure on the cooling system ,,and then they check if the pressure stays on top..or the pressure drops.if it drops...there is a leak..either outside of the system..or internally.
hope this can be of any use for you. good luck with sorting it out.

Often happens after a good drive, it's steam from the turbo boiling away the coolant around it. It's why you should let the car tick over for a couple of minutes or so before you switch off.

Hello mate, mine did this after a track day and that was head gasket. It was bubbling quite violently. The gauge wasnt reading hot normal infact. My mechanic mate did some tests and found it had exhaust gases in the header tank.

the english people have to answer you on that questionbut recomend that you also fit stud kit when you fit the new head gasket.though i guess the ordinary head bolts are good enough.

i got the gasket kit including head set including head studs for £200 delivered from pj motorsport. its easy to do yourself if you have the confidence. i just advise you that you dont really want to be driving your car around with it like that. i made the mistake and had to have my head skimmed and compression tested costing £75. it cost me £300 to do and two days work AND I'M NOT A MECHANIC
A GOOD MECHANIC WILL PROBABLY CHARGE ABOUT 150 LABOUR
GOOD LUCK MATE

what is important also...you should not do this job ..if you dont know what you are doing.of course its not a very difficult job...but things can go wrong.and if you can afford it...id advise you to let someone who knows these things ..to do the job for you.
you should also change the cambelt when you do this job.its been said that a cambelt should not be tighten and run..and loosen and then retighten ..and its always good to know that the cambelt is in perfect shape.
