Default Heat from exhaust downpipe

Ive recently fitted a power engineering stainless exhaust to my small turbo cos but have noticed that its starting to burn through the back of my heatshield. Is it ok if I use some exhaust wrap on the downpipe, do you think that will cure the problem?

its shoudn't burn through, have you got the bottom bracket, this keeps the heatshield well away from the downpipe. they normally burn through when their touching, rubbing the downpipe which glows yellow after afew mins of boosting

is it a standard h/shield? if so i should get a carbon one off marcus or through m/rainbird as these are moulded differently at the bottom to allow for the bigger diam exhaust

Yes it is a standard one but ideally I would like to keep it as the engine bay is pretty much standard looking.

Cahzz - Yes its got the bottom bracket and it was fine with the standard exhaust. Do you think exhaust wrap would do the trick as ive got a brand new heat shield to go on and I don't want to melt it!

intresting, theirs alot of people running large dia exhaust systems with standard heat shield, no-one else seems to be pointing this issue out, the only thing with heat wrap is that it the heat has to go somewhere, and usually it will just transfer further down the exhaust, not good where the exhaust is already in a tight area like the escos

it depends on how well made the downpipe is,some systems have a slightly tighter bend from the turbo and give a little more clearance, others arent quite as tight and combined with the bigger diam pipe end up touching the h/shield,when i had a mongoose on one of mine it did the same

I dont have an issue

There are two schools of thought on the heat wrao thing, some say it damages the turbo/exhaust housing as excessive heat builds up internally, where its kept inside the exhaust
