help please!!!
i am looking at buying an escort cosworth and apart from the fact that i want one and i am having trouble getting insured as im only 19(in 2weeks) then i will have 2 years no claims, i dont really know alot about them any help would be appriciated, i have my own buisness so am not sure whether i can get trade policy insurance or am i too young??? also any info that would help a 19 year old girl on buying a escort cosworth would be very much appriciated!!

Thats just general advice for cossies in general, im sure someone who knows more about the escos specificaly than i do will answer with some specific things to look for on an escos in particular.
Most important advice of all though:
Take your time! Its getting harder to find a decent one so dont be tempted to rush into buying one, try and buy with your head not your heart, they all look fucking gorgeous and its easy to "forgive" a few faults when your knickers are moist form looking at it

thank u i have already been to look at one and took the time and the effort to take the 20grand he was asking for in cash up there just in case!?? good job my step dad was with me the bloke was a complete tosser it was a fake which even i could see and the pics he has sent me through email were of someone elses car... cheeky git!!! i travelled from portsmouth to sheffiled all to see a fake!! so i do understand whatr u mean by take someone with u and for this reason is why im asking for advice!!

Take someone with you who knows EXACTLY what to look for in an Escort Cossie or you will have your eyes taken out.
I feel lucky my fella will be viewing cossies for me to buy.

Kayla: It's probably not a good idea to take Ł20K with you to see a car, just take a reasonable sized deposit. I'd imagine the majority of genuine Cosworth owners would accept a decent deposit and the balance in the form of a bankers draft. Wandering around with all that cash is far too risky in my opinion.

thats the thing i dont no a hell of alot i have a mate who has a cosworth and he said he will help but i barely ever see him thats why i have asked for advice on here so i can get as much info as possible and no i would never go on my own and yes i was a dickhead for taking 20 grand witjh me!! xx

The earlier versions had a bigger turbo (1992-1994). The later version was more refined and had a smaller turbo(1994-1997). They are simply categorised into big and small turbo.
The small turbo is recognised to be more driveable and has a quicker 0-60 as standard but the big turbo is easier to modify and offers more tuning potential. Looks wise they're pretty much the same.
I know of a really nice Ash black one and mint Mallard green one.

If you are that set on having one, I would strongly suggest getting John Taylor [see his banner ad on PF and RSOC] to find you one. He will find you a good, clean one and there is no-one better than John for sourcing excellent examples of small or large turbos, as he knows everything there is to know about them.

Good luck with your search for a minty mint EsCos Kayla, one WILL turn up eventually! I was on the lookout for one for 5-6 months before I found the one I wanted but it was definately worth the wait Excellent choice of car by the way

insurance is gonna hurt big time but if affordable do you wont regreat it i got mine at 22 yold with 3year ncb 3 grand fully comp have the car over a year and its drops quite a lot(well did for me)now at 26 full ncb just under 1k fully comp still love it to bits good luck

Definitely recommend John. He got me this one had done 58k full history and virtually standard part from a stainless and k&N all for Ł14,150:

With regards to the small turbo, its definitely a much smoother drive had mine chipped to and was quite rapid on motorways too. Got the cravin for more power though and have converted to large turbo which has really given it noticeable lag round town but more frunt on motorways. Just awaiting engine management change.
Insurance isnt to sad either, I have full no claims and am 23 cost 1600 fully comp but considering I used to pay the same for a 1.3 golf tpf at 18 didnt think it was bad.

Kayla - get the insurance sorted first. You should get a quote on a bonus accelerator scheme with an older relative on the policy as a named driver and a mileage limit of 5000 miles for approx Ł2800. Try Adrian Flux / Greenlight etc....
NOTE: Adding an extra driver that is older than you with no claim / convictions etc. actually reduces the policy quite a lot because the assumption is that they will also be driving the car at some point.
And 20K is too much to spend for your age I would reccomend a small turbo (later car) - you should get a good one for Ł15K

very good choice in motor to go for hun... Ive had mine (pics in me sig) for a year now, went for the large turbo first off, cos i like a bit of speed. But Im sure you will get what you want if you get a small or big turbo model... Small turbo models have that newer feel to them and go up to P reg's, some registered later, very rare to see though...
Would you plan to mod the engine heavily or just keep it standard, if it keeping it standard then, def recomend the small turbo model, think im right in saying most small turbo's were LUX models with leather/Air con and all the other mod cons....
