Default My Mk2 Cosworth

Good afternoon, just signed up, and thought I might as well post some pictures of my Mk2 Escort.

It's a '75 model, and I bought it as a bare shell then got to building it up for the past 4 years.

Because I found such a clean shell, I decided to put a cosworth engine from a 2wd sapphire complete with the front subframe, sierra shocks and springs ,short steering rack and four pot brakes in the front. At the rear I have a Atlas diff , 4 linked with watts linkage and frond disks from a 1.6 sierra. Transmission is a standard T5 box from the sierra. Finnaly the intercooler is from a Focus St, that fitts nicely in front of my std sierra radiator.

The car needs a few finnishing touches still, but it has posted some nice times on the track as is.

The engine is a 205 block of a 2wd sierra cosworth, that I think is normal, but on the other hand when I got the sierra it had a L8 ECU, so I have no idea what stage it is. The only thing sure is I tried a standing start with a bloke that has a dealership bought 1st hand 2wd cosworth, and left him a good deal behind (with the sierra I bought). Also I now have a set of oz turismo on it!

Here is how I first got it, Surely it had seen better days!!

The only place it had corroded was the part beeing welded

To fit the wider track front suspension, I had these plates laser cut so a pair of narrow top mounts could fit

Here is the modification to the cross member

All this was done, so there was no change to the original suspension mounts. As a result, the car is allowed to race in Greece, as its not allowed to do major body modifications

Next in the path for the angle grinder was the tunnel so it could accomodate the T5 gearbox

The Focus intercooler is a exact match for size and depth of the escorts front panel, but its a bit too long. so the sides of the engine bay were opened and welded up

Rear top mounts

Next on the list was stripping the car back down to prepare for painting. The group 4 arches went on here, and was the longest part of the project, as I am what could be said a rubbish painter!!

The most progress was made in a single day, that I managed to get 4 people to attack the sanding!!

The arches prept and then the primer went on

Painted the inside underneath and the engine bay

Few!! 1,5 years done in 13 pictures!!
