mpg = (miles travelled / litres used) * 4.54

I doubt you are using the whole 40 litres either

My light comes on at 32l in my 40l tanked fiesta

Only way to tell is to brim it, run it till light comes on, note mileage and see how much fuel it takes to brim it again, thats the ONLY way to know how much fuel you've used

300 miles on a tank is good, for a Corsa......mine only gets about 250, for the 1.6 16v version, although I don't run mine til the light comes on......as soon as it goes below 1/4 full, I fill it up the next time I'm going home from work.
