To be less restrictive, it's not rocket science

The 3" bore exhaust are only needed above 250bhp. Will do more harm than good on a car less than that.

Mine isn't

When they have a rolled in tail pipe they are because they have extra baffles. They only come with a rolled in tail pipe too.... Unless you buy one from APT

is it bad to lose back pressure?? i thought that was the idea of the bigger bore?? i heard that it can fuck your turbo, but in the same respect ive heard of loads of pulsars etc runnin straight through systems.i also heard CHATTERING turbos aslo cause the turbo units to die a lot faster too??????????????

excessive backpressure will go a long way to damaging turbo's but at good levels helps on boost (ie slightly quicker spooling)....

people have run their cars for years chattering all the way on the same turbo so can't say chatter will kill a turbo or go any way to killing it. Dump valves on other hand cause all sorts of probs on cars i know which 'risk' i'd rather be taking

Paul I think the best Analogy for compairing the back preassure associated with exhausts is to think of fuel being added to your car with a tapered funnel.....

The fuel go's in no problems until a point where the flow of fuel begins to backup, meaning that its not as free flowing into the petrol tank. It then starts to splash all over the place covering your hands your jeans etc (you get the picture ).

Now if you were then to take the funnel and chop the bottom off so that the funnel was wider in diameter at the bottom, the speed at which the petrol flows to the petrol tank is increased. Back preassure would be reduced, it would still backup in the funnel to a point however it would allow more fuel to be added than the above more tapered funnel.

The question is not really at what power do I need a 3 inch exhaust but rather at what point and what level/measurement is back preasure detremental to my car.

The above is not meant to be in any way patronising, hopefully there is others reading this thread who may find the above of help.

.
think it needed to be put in laymans terms

As varied as it is, what bracket of 'measurments' would an RST have to reach to need a 3" bore and what would that equate to roughly in power terms do you think?

It's the lack of back pressure that will damage the turbo and I doubt a 3" is needed for 250 hp.

good example andy
was trying to think of a way of explaining myself,no set power figure as theres so many variables, but in most cases, not all, around the 250bhp as been said
