How much oil does the RST gearbox hold ?

I believe it's nearer 4! At least I think I remember putting 4l in my S2 box which was dry and it didn't overflow!

I always use a funnel on the end of a short length of clean hose pipe.

Less spil and mess that way.

it holds 3.5 litres exactly thats what the haynes manual says

It's 3.1 Litres. If you have managed to get more in, thats because you had the car jacked up when you filled it!!

I use an Oil Syringe to pump the oil in as that gets it into all the nooks and crannies. Make sure the car is flat when you do it.

Just to add to this (maybe burnie can help) which gearbox oil is the best to use?

Paul Ripley (FF2.1zetec) gave me a half full bottle of Morris gearbox oil which he said he was quoted as the best around?

semi synthetic 80w-90 will be fine.. IIRC they do a 'special' grade which is specifically for gearboxes with LSD's.. i 'think' its labeled as 80w-90 LS
