Default More problems ........

Drove my car home after having the new Gearbox fitted (thanks Bernie and SCC ) and noticed some very strange things things happen when i turned my heater on/off.

I've just fitted a new cossie pump which has a louder buzz compared to the std RST one (which is probably why i've only just noticed the problem), but when i turned my heater on and off the buzz tone would drop for fraction of a second. I also noticed this when it started from cold later that day, every time the car hunted and revs dropped the buzz from the pump also changed note.

So volt meter out.....

Volts from Altornator @ idle 14.13 (holds this value when engine revs increase)
Volts from Batt @ Idle 14.1 (holds this value when engine revs increase)
But when i turn my heater on it drops to around 13.7 @ the alternator.

I then checked the fuel pump, 14v @ idle but when i flick the heater on and off it dropped again to 13.7 and the pump buzzing sound dropped and picked up again.

I've checked all earths and as much wiring as possible and seems all ok. Does this sound like a dodgy alternator regulator? I've recently fitted a new reconditioned alternator could this be faulty?

Cheers,
Dan

just where the heater is robbing juice from the alternator.
as long as your getting a solid 12v should be fine.

Surely the pump changing buzzing "note" cant be a good thing though??

Its only buzzing louder before because theres nothing else on sharing the power, you'll find the same when you put your electric windows up for example, when they reach the top and stop, or when u turn the heated rear window etc. High current consumption items cause these coltgae drops, nothing to worry about, you'll probably also find if you raise the engines RPM slightly from idle it does it less.

Its cool dont worry about it

Thanks safechav you're making me feel alot better

But I'll get the fuel pressure checked whilst turning things on and off, because if that drops, then there is a problem!

Thanks again

Well if it puts your mind at rest then go for it but i'll put money on its ok, you gota remember you rarely use all the pressure thats available, hence the regulator and return lines........

You should see my car, when you start loading things up you can see the lights kind of "pulsing" is the only word i can think of to describe it. Its charging fine and always starts, seen a few cars do it i think must just be the alternator.

Fair enough, but its things like this that can melt engines (loss of eletrical power etc) so would rather just have it checked out for sure.
