even if it wasa full you can still do data recovery.
its unlikely that much usefull survived tho. plus its gonna cost a few quid to buy the software

Why did you do a recovery?
What EXACTLY did you do?
You CAN find Free data recovery progs online, just one here:
http://www.file-recovery.net/
I've recovered "lost photos etc" before, All is not necessarily lost.
Owning up is the best move, sometimes Dads know best.
If its any help, I'm a dad and if my sons had lost all my files they would only be able to use a keyboard with their toes, now.

Well it wouldn't let me go into safe mode, or anything else. So when the screen came up with the press f whatever for set up and press F10 for system recovery I did that... but once in it wouldn't let me come back out and its wiped the lot

So you can't get safe mode to work, or run Windows normally, so how are you looking at the hard drive to know that its all gone?

Stu I think I might have a data recovery program I can point you in the direction of.
Its proved very good at retrieving stuff from a formatted drive.
All your data will still be there its just your pc cant see it.
