oliie c the carb ur runnin, is it the round shaped twin choke one, i think thats the dft, or the one with the square barrels?? i dunno if this makes any sense but any words of wisdum appreciated!! am runnin an xr2 lump in an escort with same carb as u i think, but some people reckon the other 'square' one is better, however others say thayre a nightmare to set up and not worth hassle!!!!!

The round topped one is a TLDM, the DFT is the one people refer to at the "sqare top" carb but it still has round venturi's.
DFT:

The main difference between the DFT and TLDM is that the DFT has bigger venturi's and has a mechanical linkage to open the second V instead of a vacuum operated one. This means it doesn't "back off" when the vacuum gets low - ie. cruising speed.
It wasn't overly difficult to set up, but the proper manifolds for them are quite rare and the carb would no longer fit it after I replaced the auto choke with a manual one. Hence I had to modify a 1400 CVH manifold to fit it instead (the foot print of the DFT is the same as the 1400 DFTM, but the TLDM is different).
Modified manifold:

Basically I've ground out all the holes to be the size required for the 32/34 DFT carb.
Hope this helps.
cheers mate, so u reckon it makes a big difference? u not considered usin the xr3i mfi head, its got bigger valves than normal cvh but u can run the carbs on it no probs.
what brake ur fezy puttin out u reckon mate?

I think the carb made a difference yeah, it gives better response, but remember I also ground out the ports in my manifold at the same time as fitting it.
yeah think ur right, mfi head wont fit lean burn, think piston tops are different design as far as im aware. u any closer to puttin the cam in?? am really intreaged to c wat a difference that will make. when i first built up my engine i was usin a high lift cam i got from an xr3i i broke, but coudlnt get her to run, fueling probs mainly. also couldnt ID the cam which nvr helped tryin to set up timing either!!! not a big deal to change tho, was worth a shot.
