Default rear wing

what is the story with the rear wing/wrc spoiler? am i right in thinking the wing was banned cuz it was too big?
does the wrc have any advantage over the wing?
more down force/stability?
just interested thats all not going to put a wrc on mine!

With the WRC cars, they were basically given a free rein, providing the alterations fitted within the dimensional limitations placed on the WRC cars. And because there were no homologation requirements, rearward visibilty was not a concern (as there is NONE out the back of a WRC car).

With this in mind Ford developed a spoiler that created more downforce AND less drag. They also developed the FRONT spoiler so that it had equivalent downforce when going sideways, as the existing car did in a straightline .

That is correct, they are FASTER . This is not only due to the aerodynic package, but the WRC cars were also allowed engine changes as well. So they switched to IHI turbos instead of Garrett and also they had longer rods, which increased the rpm limit of the Grp A cars from 6750 to 7250 on the WRC cars , with the obvious several mph gain in overall top speed this gave. The longer rods also gave better torque as well . The WRC cars also have an active centre differential and rear suspension unique to the WRC cars.

And they had stick on number plates, made from Avery's finest vinyl.

Actually, it's all from memory . However, if you know anyone (hint, hint), who can photocopy or has a copy of the Grp A Escort build up manual (like the Grp N one, which I have issue 3 11/94), if there is such a thing, then it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm also lucky enough to have seen the different Grp A / "World" engines being dynoed, and being the curious bugger I am, I'm all over them like a rash .

Default Manual

Mike

I've just come from the garage, just in is a F Delacour Escort Cosworth first used in the 95 San Remo.

Its totally stripped and ready for painting and then rebuild.

I'll ask the guys if they have the original manuals and if they could send you a copy.

Cheers. Kenny
