Default Ways to cool her down...

Someone please help me!!

My little Betty (FRST) is poorly, she's recently had a new engine and ever since its running a little hot! Well I say its hot but the infared sensor thingy to check the pipes tells me its not

Anyways, ive changed the temp sensor, wired in the fan constantly and last night even did a block test to check once again for head gasket but unfortunatly the bloody pump decided to piss all the block test fluid into my header tank so i couldnt get a reading.

Anyone got any ideas on how I can cool Betty down cos she doesnt like being hot and bothered

Thanks
Vikki

dont have the fan running constantly, wire it via a switch so you can control it. Other ideas to make it run cooler, alloy rad, lower degree thermostat, bonnet raisers, different fan switch so they come on earlier etc... or just have the interior heaters on hot all the time like me, that seems to work

Havent got a heater matrix

Having the fan put on a switch tonight so all should be

Where would I get a lower degree thermostat from? Also, anyone got any pics of a FRST with double fans and are they easy to fit?

THANKS!

It still doesnt seem right if its still getting hot without the thermostat. You shouldnt have to buy an alloy rad and bonnet raisers just to get it running at normal temperature

at the end of the day it depends whats been done to the engine I suppose. I have a twin cosworth intercooler done by mr norris which sits right in front of the rad, I also have one of his fan conversions (4 little fans). This means I have hardly any air flow to the rad which makes it run a lot hotter then a normal rst would, I also get massive heat soak into the rad from my stage 3 turbo

If the engine is standard ish then it shouldnt really be running hot, not unless theres something wrong Probably the best bet is get someone to look at it.

Regarding the thermostat, anyone know whether the escort rs turbo one is the same fitment as a fiesta rs turbo one ? If so Christian off this site was selling 82'C thermostats which should make a difference, dont know if he has any left though.

i wouldn't go with the twin fan option. i still have the original fan on mine & it's quite powerful. it thats not cooling your engine then there may be problems elsewhere.

best idea would be to get the result on the headgasket before moving on to other ideas.

ps. if you are having overheating issues now then putting a GRS on will only make things worse!!

Mattbibs - Ive just PM'd you!

Duncan - Its been chipped and has a cam in it nothing majot, its running standard IC and Rad but i just cant work out what the problem is I initially thought it had to be wiring but last night i ran her up for a bit and took the rad cap off and it was bubbling over

other halfs dad is an MOT tester and he looked at it and said 'I dont know much about Turbo's love but im sure it shouldnt do that'

thermostat - if there the same fitment as a s2 erst then pm Christian and Beccy. I know christian was doing 82'C thermostats a little while ago, dont know if he has any left though

overheating problem - best to get it looked at by someone that knows fiesta rs turbo's.

make sure there are no leaks or perished hoses, I had a small hole in a hose which until it finally let go was completely unnoticable but it was letting the pressure out and making the car run hotter.

This is gonna sound completely stoopid but how would I check for perished/split hoses?

changed the cap on the header tank? Might not be pressurising the system properly.

unlikely it'll be a split hose then, but might be worth a check, The main one its gonna be is the heater matrix hose that comes off the thermostat housing and dissapears round to the back of the engine to the heater matrix. (absolute bitch to remove at the matrix end).

splits can be hard to find, esp small ones but look out for any hoses that look like they've been rubbing against other parts etc..
