Right, I am still gonna leave it a few days to see how my PC runs with this bluetooth dongle in it, but both times I installed it (the original time last year with the BlueSoleil softare and this recent time with the Widcomm stack) I get the dreaded "Blue Screen Of Death" and I am nearly POSITIVE it's a conflict between the PC and the actual dongle I have - cheapo one imported from China, no actuall branding, but it's this thing;

Which shows up in Device manager as "ISSC" Bluetooth Device
So.. I think I might try another dongle, and looking on UK sites, I saw this one, and what caught my eye is it comes with Widcomm v1.4 software so hopefully it should be a good one.
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/8851.htm
Have you/anyone used this one? Any idea if it is any good? It's quite expensive at £8.49 inc postage (fooking UK site, still charging £2.50 postage
)
Know of any cheaper ones, that are still good?

Meant to add. The one I have is allegedly "Bluetooth v1.2 compliant" and "USB 1.2/2.0 compliant" working distance of 0-100meter
The one above seems to only be bluetooth v1.1 and USB 1.1 compliant... So would it be slower?

Right thinking about new dongles now, to try so as to see if it is the actual device that the PC don't like.....
Found these, and the guy at the company who sells em has mailed me a couple of times in return to my questions and has bee really helpfull so far.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1
So I am thinking of getting a couple of those. He said tho that he has tried them on PC's runninng Widcomm Stack 1.4 and they didn't recognise, tho they did with 1.3 - EBR can you tell me if the software I am running from you is "cracked" to accept all devices? He can do me two of them for £15 which is a bonus aswell
If that still don't work then it's time to format the fucking machine and start again, as it's the only way to get rid of the trace drivers that have been left behind from the uninstall.....
Now, lastly, how do I disable the Microsoft BT stack since I am running Widcomm?

righty,
bluetooth v1.1 ok if you just want to use it with your phone and a few other devices. But I think its v1.2 and above that supports stuff like bluetooth headsets and printers etc..
yes the widcomm stack I gave you is cracked to accept any bluetooth dongle. It even accepts ones that dont work on it!
The only bluetooth adaptors I've ever used is a HAMA one I got from maplins years a go - which is now old and outdated. And I got a nice v2.0 logitech dongle which came with my MX5000 bluetooth keyboard and mouse
(this also came a working version of the widcomm stack and installed on sp2 with no problems at all)
to disable the microsoft bluetooth stack you have to disable the microsoft bluetooth device in device manager (which your pc currently isnt picking up anyway!)

Lol, thoughts thats why I couldn't disable the MS stack!
So these should work fine with Widcomm, and the guy says they are proven to work fine with the MS stack.
To be honest I am not really interested in bt headsets and the like - I just wanna hook my phones up and also the downstairs PC so I can send files two and from etc...
So looks like these are the ones....
But the guy selling em has suddenly got all arsey for some reason, and is now saying he doesn't want to sell me them at these prices in case he gets hung up on support, and would rather sell me a pair at twice the cost
Gonna try and get the other pair off him for £15 tho cos as long as they trigger the MS stack I can disable it and run it using Widcomm so all should be fine!
Can't understand this guy getting all arsey tho - I mean he's the one that stands to make the sale FFS - he'll lose it if he'll only sell me the £33 ones cos I won't buy em.

I dont think it will solve your MS stack problem TBH. The MS stack doesnt really care what dongle you use, it just installs a generic driver.
Is there anyone local to you that could lend you their dongle?
If not give us your addy and I'll post you my HAMA one as a LOAN to try out. But I want it back!!!!

Oh no don't do that, cos it'd be a nightmare if it got lost or otherwise!
I think I will just buy these two if I can, and start by installing it on my second machine and see how it works. If it works like it should with the MS stack then I'll try it on my machine (with the Widcomm stack remoced). If it fails on there then I know it has conflict and I will reformat the system drive and start again. If it still don't work then I know it's the actuall PC that is the problem so it will all be in vain.
and lets face it, if it all don't pan out I'll just flog the bits on ebay should I not need em
as ever tho dude, you've been a great help!
But stay tuned, cos I'm bound to fuck it up sooner or later
And I know I'll need help with it

Right, so I come home and boot up my PC. And although I installed the BT device on a different USB port yesterday, same thing happens today when I boot up.
The BT device doesn't light up and when the task bar comes up the BT logo is red saying no device connected. Then the NEW HARDWARE FOUND balloon pops up, says it is a new usb device, then says it is an unknown USB device. And it does nothing. So I unplug the bt device and plug it in again. Immediately the balloon pops up again and the ADD NEW HARDWARE wizard opens. So I direct it to the Widcomm btusb driver file, it installs and once again it is working.
However, now my Nokia PC Suite won't connect to the phone via bluetooth even tho I have the Widcomm stack set as the stack to use and have tried pairing it. The phone and PC will pair as devices but the Nokia PC suite still refuses to connect the phone and PC through it - just says no phones connected
This HAS to be a problem with the dongle. The only other thing I can think of is that the Bluesoleil software has somehow turned off the Microsoft Stack not letting the PC recognise the device. But this makes no sense as the system has been resotred 2 or three times since uninstalling that software, back to before I even bought the thing!
So I don't get it, and I think the only thing left on the cards is an entire system drive format and reinstallation of XP
So thats my evening taken up right!!!
While it's doing that I'll try to get on the other PC and see if it install on there using the MS Stack - hopefully it will so I won't have to buy two devices I can just get one, but from memory when I tried that on this machine BEFORE I installed Bluesoleil it didn't work. I just thing there must be something to do with the actual dongle and Windows doesn't like it or something

Right, still in the middle of a reinstall - OS is on and just reconfiguring everything and installing programmes and drivers etc...
Back to the BT problem. I took my BT dongle and plugged it into my other Dell PC (downstairs one) which also runs XP SP2 and has never seen a BT dongle before.
Immediately it popped a balloon up saying new hardware found and opened the new hardware wizard.
But again it searched for a driver and couldn't find one and ended up NOT installing the device
No sign of the Bluetooth Places in the Device manager either. So it HAS to be this device!!! It obviously doesn't have an XP signature or whatever or doesn't have a driver preinstalled on the XP OS.....

Yup, after reinstalling the entire Windows OS (XP SP2) and doing a Windows Update, I just plugged in the BT device, and the exact samae thing that happened above happened - it won't install it without a third party driver
So back to Widcomm I guess, and see how it behaves.
I think I might just buy the other two devices I have found (£18.25 inc postage for a pair) which the seller is including a compatible older version (1.3.2.7) of Widcomm with it to help me along. But if they do as he says, they should both run fine on XP's built in MS stack
So we shall see....
