Default FAO Knowledgeable Computer People

I want to make a copy of all my photos, documents etc on my PC at home.

How is the best way to do this?

Can I just save it to CD or will it require a number of CD's?

Any advice on the easiest and best way to do this would be appreciated.

Thanks

depending on size of the folder(s)

CD(s)
DVD(s)
spare HD(s) either in a usb case or if confident then installed in the PC
I would go with the usb HD option for ease of use if your not sure

most peoples personal files wont exceed 700mb i shouldnt have thought.

right click on the folders in question and click properties.

this will show you the size im MB

Less than 700MB, stick it on a cd, if its between 700MB and 4.7GB, burn them to dvd if you have a dvd burner.

Would it be a good idea to zip files before saving them?

There's 2 way's to do this.

1) Network the 2 pc's and transfer the files across.

2) Burn your personal files to cd using your cd-writer and software, or use a USB thumb drive which will allow you to copy the files onto it, then easily take them off on another pc.

Or, if you got fast broadband, msn them across

thats what i was thinking but didnt want to say

my idea of personal files is docs, vids, MP3's etc and for me that way over anything that would fit on DVD's (what with broadband) so the HD option would be better for me and most people i know.
