i personly would really recommend torquing because if anything comes of in an engine it means big damage and its expensive for for the sake of a couple mins work
if your old lifters are at all dished, you'll need to replace the cam as well or you'll scrap the new lifters.
when running in a new cam and lifters, don't let the car tick over for the first 20 mins of running, hold it at about 2-2.5k rpm. this takes pressure of the tips of the cam lobes during the hardening in.

Quite on idle but Tappety through 2-3000 revs.

is the noise more like a ticking or a thudding? ticking from the top en is the cam taking up a small amount of slack in the valvetrain before the valve opens. a knocking will be excessively worn shells or mains and the sound is coming from lower down in the engine it will sound more muffled and deep. one of those sickening sounds that you know is gona cost a few quid.
Definatly ticking.
Quick listen by ford mech - Slight top end rattle as he called it.
Checked the oil, it was a little low ( been topped up )
Full check on Friday. Full Serv Ł170 +

set of tappets off ebay are about 28 quid. I used a set of them for a while and they were fine, pumped up within about 2 mins on first run and after that they were silent till I took the lump out.

Ł95 is abit over the top but then thats what you would expect when you get it done at ford
Its a dead easy job mate even a novice mechanic can do these.
Had my engine rebuilt a few months ago cost me 1500 quid, when i fired it up for the fist time it was tapping is balls off. Turned out 4 yes 4 of the brand new tappets on the inlet side where fooked! How unlucky is that?So i took them out and the company gave me 4 new ones and i replaced them myself to save time, it was supprisingly easy!
