Default saph rev counter help please

ok coming back from stratford yesterday and 3rd gear, boot it and the rev counter goes off the scale (and stays there) while the engine feels like its hesitating and juddering etc,

cruising in 5th gear the rev counter is going all over the place rapidly

anyone else had this ??

check your crank sensor, phase sensor and the supressor capacitor for the coil

how the hell do i check them and where are they on the car ???

i know where the phase sensor is but isnt it inside the dizzy ?

fookin cars lol

it wont damage anything while its doing this is it as i havent got time now to check them but ive got to go to leeds tonight and back tommorow before its put away for xmas

Dont bother, cut out the connectors on teh firewall instead and solder all connections. Will likely fix the other niggles you have had teh last few months too. Job Done.


Worst case scenario, unplug and replug all three a few times.

DO NOT SPRAY WITH WD40 OR SIMILAR GARBAGE.

im far from the best at soldering and hate messing with 15 year old car wiring so i may just try unplugging them all a good few times

if it continues then i will have no choice but to try soldering it

fuel filter was changed around jan time so should be ok still ?

only asked as i had the same thing .. mucked around for ages with sensors etc .. nearly did the wiring thing .. but then decided to change the fuel filter etc on a service.. instantly cleared the problem....

Matt - if you don't fancy soldering the wires yourself, then come upto mine one weekend and i'll do it for you i've got all the equipment here so its not a problem

looks like your gonna be a busy man what time ?

must admidt the thought of sitting on the engine soldering wires really does not thrill me one bit .. must do mine tho

When i first had mine, it would sometimes idle a bit high (Nearly on the limiter!! ) and the tacho used to be irratec
My mate said to try the three plugs, cut & soldered them Job done!!

its the 3 plugs on the bulkhead above the camcover - they unplug and seperate the engine loom from the car loom, remove these plugs and replace with wire and you eliminate the electrical gremlins that they cause
