Pauter Forged Chrome-Moly Steel Rods & Custom Spec JE Pistons.

Power wise they will cope with a lot more that I plan chucking at them

A couple of pics...well it would be rude not too

Looked at going this route myself for a VW engine I'm building.

Certainly the best combination IMO, especially with the Pauter titanium rods but at $995 each there a bit pricey

The design of the Pauter rods is supposed to create less drag in the crankcase.

Can a rod and piston kit for a black top zetec (post 97) be used in and early zetec (93 - 97)?

I thought they could. You just can't mix and match rods and pistons as they have different rod lengths / comp heights.

Have i got this right?

thats what i have done but could not get the compression ratio any lower then 8:4:1 so ended up having to use a de-comp plate

yeah thats true doug, if you use eagle rods and pistons for the blacktop in a silver top, lowest CR is around 8.4/8.5:1

these wiseco ones im having made will be 7.8:1 to my spec, but could go lower if required.

not seen the rods yet but they are done now, and aint cheap lookin at about Ł900 a set

pistons are gonna be about Ł600 too, but will take around 700bhp

What pistons and rods did you use? Eagle and JE?

I'm going for Eagle rods, but I've found some pistons that are lower CR than the JEs so might be ok. Mind you I reckon with carefull mapping i could get 300 bhp on 8.5:1 which is enough for me!

Is it just the building that you canne afford?

I would offer to put it together for you but I'm a bit on the busy side at the mo.

I have a mate who works at Randall Race Engines who will always up for a cash job? He is very reasonable.

LOL @ some of the replies. Tissue's anyone?

Rudey - I would say that anything over 440bhp on a standard zetec crack is pushing it and it would be on a wing and a prayer.

Seen it before. Quality work. Have used your engine as an example before for people who don't believe what you can do on stock engine components.

Anyone know the make of the forged pistons focus-central are selling? Any testimonials? At 259$/set the price seems almost ridiculous. Eagle rods are 311$ at most places so this would make a cheap combination.

8.5:1 sounds perfect to me for big power. Anyhow, if one uses the pistons sold as 8.2:1 CR pistons together with the Eagles, what is it that modifies the CR? Is the squish band screwed too then?

the eagle stuff is for the black top zetec, the rods are slightly longer, hence less cc's in the cylinder = higher CR

still, with 8.5:1 you should still see a safe 230/250 bhp i guess before you get det issues

I know the rods are a bit longer, but shouldn't the pin on the pistons be equally much higher to counter that? If not, what doesn't match?

I'd say 250hp is doable even from a 1.6 CVH with 8.5:1 C/R.
