Default Wobble through steering wheel......?

I've got a 1990 S2 and when i get to about 65mph i get a wobble coming through the steering column and wheel.

The wheels are balanced and the steering rack and track rod ends in good condition.

I've think i remember reading somewhere that there it a plastic bush somewhere on the steering column that wears and can cause this wobble, is this true?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as i like to get it sorted before i start using the car again.

Cheers, Mark

Check your discs for warps...........common problem to the MK3/MK4 Escort/Orion.

When doing this speed with the vibration if you brake does the steering wheel wobble/shake even more? (its quite scary if it does)

I had the same problem and AVA had the answer, they asked me if i had the wee plastic spiggot rings on the wheels, so they would sit centre on the hub, i didnt

Spent £10 on 4 of theses and it totally transformed the car, no shakes or vibrations now

Yeah the discs and pads are in goon condition, not that old since converted to cossie spec.

The wheels dont require the plastic spigot ring that you are talking about because they are a direct fit onto the hub.

My suspicions are with the plastic bush/bearing on the steering column.

Thanks for your advice anyway, very much appreciated. Anybody else got any ideas?

Cheers

Think i'm gonna have to speak to ford to see what bushes there are to replace on the steering column and order them up.

might i suggest rotating tyres front to rear and re test driving .....alot of shakes come from tyres wearing badly that although are balanced you cant see there at fault

we cure alot of cars with this simple test

I might give that a try before i go changing the plastic bushes, although it hasn't been long since i fitted the tyres and balanced them. Worth a go though or trying the wheels off my other escort as i have no problems with that.

Cheers
