Default Fiesta Zetec Turbo project... Update 4/1/06 breathers/manifo

Hey all,

Thought I'd better post some of the progress of my Fiesta Zetec project...

I did post a thread in the Fiesta section when I first got it. I payed a score for it off my aunt as it was left at her new place by the previous owners!

Didn't look too bad when I first got it home, but after removing bumpers and kit there is a fair amount of rust on the rear arches and fillercap! I did start to repair some of the rusty bodywork a few weeks back, but as the car is outside at the moment, it's just far too cold to be out there! The shell will be put in my dads lockup in the next week or two so I can get the bodywork finished...

So far I have welded the fuel filler up (will fill tank up through a pipe in the boot floor or rear window), a couple of holes in the rear arch and cut back the rear valance where it has rusted. Still to do are a few small holes on the rear, a hole in the passenger footwell and a couple of small holed on the front valance. The interior has been stripped and all sound proofing removed. It will be a track/sprint car when finished so none of this junk will be going back in lol

About a good days work once I get the car in the lockup and she'll be welded up and a few coats of primer...

Basicly the engin will run a ERST manifold with T3, uprated injectors, lowered compression and remapped FRST managment. I have already started to work on the engine in the last week or so at work...

The sites below have been very helpful for info regarding Zetec turbo conversions, as has this site and fiestaturbo.com

Cheers boys...

Yeah, the car looks pretty good in the first photo. It's just the rust that's a bit of a problem, but nothing the bodykit won't hide when she's back together

I did want to make the fuel rail out of ally but I couldn't find any small diameter tube, or a long enough drill to open some solid out.

Should be some more photos during the week, gotta get as much machining done before the christmas break!

Thanks

Shaun

Indeed Rudey. The amount of threads off here and FT.com I have read through in the last 2-3 weeks is unreal lol....

Sooo much great info though, basicly everything I need to complete my engine. So many nice cars here built to such a high standard, defo gives me some inspiration...

Cheers Red16.

Little update...

Had the rocker cover painted satin black at work. Thought I might aswell as the painter was painting a few other bits for work lol...

Engine is stripped down, block has had three holes drilled and tapped for the oil return and two breathers. Need to make the three pipes to suit them next week.

Pistons.... I haven't got the money to go forged low-comp pistons so im left with either fitting a de-comp plate or machining the pistons. Im led to believe that the 1.8 pistons can have the crown machined by a couple of mm to achive the correct c/r. Any info on this would be apreciated...

I'll get a couple of photos either today or tomorrow...

Thanks

Shaun

Default Fiesta Zetec Turbo - Update - 01/01/06 - Breathers/Manifold

Hey all,

Little bit of an update, back to work now so I can finish off the machining...

Managed to get the Zetec head on the mill today to redrill and tap the holes for the Escort Turbo manifold. All went well, broke through the top line of holes into the return oilway, but I knew that was going to happen!

Tomorow I should be Tig welding the fuel rail up as we've now got some gas! Had to wait for it to be ordered as we've used the last lot on homework lmao!

Also got to modify some studs so the fit the head properly and machine the breatherand oil return pipes.

Drilling the block!

Any comments welcome..

Cheers
