lots to the head and he uses special cam and cam bearings, this is the biggest problem with them.

I'll call him to see if he has pictures, then we'll get them posted. the engine is in a mk1 escort, I drove another of his cars that was pinto with carbs and nitrous, with this he make enough power to run 9.8 1/4mile.

Sierra OHC engines are quite popular around here with upto 280hp in N/A form and god knows how much with a turbo. Surely much more turbo OHC sierras than cosworth sierra around.

Abroad yes, but not in the UK.

The UK is noutorious for being mega unimaginative when it comes to tuning.

Most ive seen in the UK from a Turbo Pinto is crappy turbo technics conversions with T3s.

Even though abroad ive seen them with huuuge turbos, twin external wastegates, allsorts.

My dads's pinto SOHC Westfield made 180 bhp on the rollers N/A. It had been built by Dave Walker though. They seem pretty good engines.

There used to be one in Australia that was very fast. I also seen a MK2 in Denmark in 2008 which was running 9's with a turbo pinto !!!

It was a mint car too.

reliably about 220 bhp is what u get from them, theres been a couple with t3s cossy rods and pistons but they all seem to struggle to make much more than 200bhp. the money it costs to take it to 350-400bhp u would be better just putting a stage 3 YB in. or get creative and put a 13B rotary, sr20, redtop etc

If you cant make more than 200bhp on a turbo'd pinto, there is something seriously wrong.

ive never built one, onlt seen people with sierra's try it. and ive seen 1 produce 300 bhp and it was just one problem after the another. a couple have made 220bhp but there are alot of problems to over come and it becomes quite expensive

I built one years ago. No idea of power, but it was easily quicker than a standard cossie. It was just blowing through a carburettor though. Crappy old thing built for buttons.

With modern fuel injection and turbos etc, it would be very easy to build one to make some power.
Cant really see why there would be any big problems. The bottom end is pretty mcuh same as a Cossie for a start, and the head aint that bad.

exactly what I had, mine was using renault solex turbo carb.

I guy I know (who built mine) was building them 10+ years ago and his was running some serious boost in his capri, very rapid car. He built a fair few pinto turbos, mine was a pretty decent spec (good pistons etc) but before I could get a bigger turbo on mine I lost the bugger on an icy bend and totalled it, was a really nice car.. 3 door moonstone cossie rep.. all bits, even roof put on for sunroof, headlining, dash, carpets, rs500 bumper, splitter, foglight mesh rs500 rear spoilers etc.

My current ohc-turbo will have not far from twice that, around 400hp and 500nm+
Running atm a turbonetics e46 turbo, grey cossie injectors, cossie ecu and inlet.

A mate is building a beast these days, heavly modded pinto with a gt35(or was it 40) with external wastegate. Will be running megasquirt ecu

Another mate got 283hk/395nm at the wheels from his winter runaround when the clutch gave up. It's carburettor and a t34 turbo

Yet another mate is currently running 1.9bars with megasquirt ecu. Peaked 2.55bars at a local event last summer when a hose came off. Still runs smooth. Never been dynoed, but is seriously QUICK!! Will get back with figures this summer when it goes on the rollers.

Another fmcn.no project. Runs stock internals!!! together with a megasquirt ecu @ 1.8bars. 398hk and 486nm on the fly

I seen a 1490cc normally aspirated pinto run a 10.04 in a MK1 Escort in Malta. Mind you it was using a little gas too.

SO they can be very very fast

You can make any cc you require for any given race rules. It'll just cost some money.

Otherwise how would any variation appear other than 1.6 or 2.0 ? Although pretty sure they also made a 1.3 Pinto too.

None.

Some people feel the need to cut/butcher/weld...or adapt parts somehow.

I seen a turbochared 2.0 twin cam over here once. For some lunatic reason they felt the need to butcher and weld intake manifolds from all sorts together on it. Why on earth they didnt just use the existing manifold as is....is beyond me.

Likewise with a turbo pinto. The standard efi manifold would actually work bloody well.

Just saw off the flanges from the ohc head, and weld onto the cossy manifold

The standard efi manifold is restrictive, but gains alot of nm by using it

Daz Green from D.G Autos built a N/A 2.1 pinto on 48s that put out circa 240bhp in the late 90's. Was mag featured in Classic Ford IIRC, was very sorted for the budget he spent on it i.e. not as much as most...
