thermostat ?? jammed shut

when taking my cam etc out i tested the thermostst and it didnt open up when i poured boiling water on it would that mean its fooked and maybe why my car overheated and boiled the header tank water ??

Best thing to do is get a new thermostat put it in and see what happen's.
the only way to tell if the headgasket has gone is to do a compression test or take the head off
