Anyone read JC's review of the Veyron in the times?
Not only the fact that he rants and raves about how good the car is but also tells you something about its development.
Like how the original body shape wasn't areodynamic enough for 250mph and would only get it to 235mph. So first thing they did was make the wing mirrors smaller.
This only meant that the cars nose wanted to lift up at 200mph, so they had to put them back on. The wing mirrors were generating so much downforce they kept the damn thing on the road!!!!!
Things like that make you realise how much of a engineering accomplishment that car is!

You seen how much fluid the engine/transmission hold?!
100 litres fuel
40 litres water (eng coolant)
15 litres water (charge coolers)
20 litres engine oil
22 litres g/box oil
15 litres hydraulic oil
I'm guessing oil weighs a bit more than water but if that 207 litres were water then thats 207kg so its gonna be more than that!! no wonder it weighs 2 fookin ton!

The main problem of this car is that. Bugatti built the original concept, then trotted out all the figures about 250mph etc etc.
So when the engineers got round to actually making it all work it was much harder than Bugatti's top chiefs gave them credit for!
Its good that they managed to make it look so much like the original concept/

Concept

Production.
Compare that to the McLaren SLR concept

vs

Despite all that engineering, its still not the best Supercar ever. That's still the McLaren F1. Of every Supercar of the last 10 years the Veyron still falls way behind the Carrera GT and Enzo in terms of being a decent proposition.

Regarding stability. Ive seen the 240mph run video and Andy (Wallace) doesnt even break a sweat!
He actually gives a running commentary!

The way I see it is if the Bugatti was roughly 300metres of the way down the straight at Brunters and the Macca at the start. The Macca nails it and passes the Bugatti at 100mph, then the Bugatti goes. They can both hit 200mph before the end of Brunters. So where does the several miles stuff come from???

Lee - Double Posting when Im not on the site doesnt make you look clever!
Anyway.
Veyron on the Hard Shoulder
F1 doing 100 mph in the outside lane - Rolling Start
As they draw level they both go for it. The F1 is accelerating from 100-200. Yes they will hit 200 at (more or less) the same time, (BV first) but the F1 has a head start in actual positioning on the road.
Its difficult for me to explain, but the F1 is further down the road when they both hit 200. So although they are doing the same speed, the F1 is in the distance.
My belief is that you cant catch the F1 if they are both running at the same speed. (obviously) So although the BV will close the gap to the F1 I dont think it will catch it. Not inside a few minutes anyway.
I'll try and find the figures to back that up. (not made easy as Bugatti dont publish MPH speed only KMH) Its about distance travelled in the time it takes the cars to get to 200. So I need a acceleration over distance travelled graph for both cars. And Im sorry to say this isnt really my strongest area.
So bear with me on that. Or are you going to start posting "well?" when I'm asleep
If Im wrong, Im wrong, but I read something similar on another site, and it kind of makes sense.

I was wrong
I sat and worked it out last night. (You see what you made me do
)I had to estimate figures so the cars have linear acceleration (which I'm sure they dont)
The Veyron will do 0-200 in 1.6 KM
The F1 will do 100-200 in 1.9KM

The Veyron will catch and pass the F1 around the 1.4KM mark. I hope you're satisfied! I couldnt get to sleep I was thinking about it

Have a read of Gordon Murray's write up in Top Gear magazine about the Veyron. Obviously, hes biased as he was the creator and guide of the F1. But what he says makes a whole lot of sense, and unlike lots of other reviews of the Veyron. He's not just focussing on the numbers. But the actual car's design.

If Gordon designed a pencil sharpener I'd buy it! The man is a design genius, very much in the same vein as Colin Chapman and John Barnard.

But on an 8litre 4 Turbo engine, Lag should be much less. You certainly shouldnt have to change into 2nd if you're doing 3K in 3rd. And want to give it some.
