i dont know whether to break my RS or get it fixed

it needs a new gearbox at a price of 1500 quid - but i have little funds at the mo and wil require saving money

question is how much are they worth in bits do people reckon

even if i get it fixed i wil stil need to look in to gettin a diesel as i wil b commuting to work (lookin at a SMART cdi - 90 to the gallon!)

 

Ł1500 for a S2 gearbox is that solid gold

dont ppl use a desil gearbox stronger and probly a lot cheaper i payed 200quid awhile back for my gearbox why is it so much ?

No, that's a common myth. The deisel box is no stronger, has no LSD so all you get is one wheel spinning up so its shite. The box is supposed to have a slightly longer gear ratio but nothing more, so in other words dont bother, you can get a good lsd box for Ł150 odd. But seeing as he seems to run a half decent spec I should imagine a standard box wont last

Should b able to get a second hand box for around Ł200 , recons are only Ł550ish

 

As Adam says the diesel box is shite. Wouldn't even consider insulting my RS by fitting one.

With the spec you are running you will need something pretty hefty to stop the car eating the new box. Buy a cheap box and turn the boost down while you save for the proper box. Or just lay the car up over winter so it doesn't get fucked. You'll be surprised how quickly you can save that sort of money when you want to

 

or get in touch with jano oddkid and see what he could sort you,he may buy it as it is,worth a try,or even buy a cheap rs turbs,take the bits you need,then sell it off bit by bit, juss an idea!

you can have a box re-built and have a quaife atb diff fitted for less than 1500 notes!!!

 

it is a cts stage two box - mainly cause i need it to hold the power

i reckon it would be around 260-280 bhp

destroyed the standard box after 200 miles on full boost - too much torque

Bernie's Satge 2+ has coped with Sunny's power in his 178mph Zetec turbo monster

 

Reckon you will get something sorted out,get the boost dow,get saving you will have the cash in no time if you put your mind to it!

 

why not just fit a cheap standard box for now and run less power, at least you can keep what looks like a very smart RS

 

I would just run less power allowing you to use the car with a standard box. While your using it, save up for a bernie box, at least you would still be getting use out of your S2, and it would seem such a shame to break it - everyones doing that! lol, we gotta keep some of them alive!

no broke the standard box needs a bernie stage 2

put her in storage yesterday - missed her so much

 

Get saving the pennys, putting the car away for a while will help you a fair bit!
