is there any difference in the standard and the group A jobs or is it all bollox and just placebo shite in a nice box ????

 

The cambelt is alot thicker...i refused to put a standard one on when i bought one!..(although very strong just looked to thin ) The Grp A is more heat resistant...although that may only refer to the Mountune ones.

The coils were called "Grp A" by Ford . I have an old Ford catelogue with the 909 part number and everything listed as "Grp A" for the coils .

Same for the cambelts, although I didn't realise there was more than one tensioner....

 

mike the point was even the group A head gaskets are the same as a small turbo escos one ( i wanna buy a part, not a finis code )

Having had several cam belt failures on YB's we always use the Mountune cam belt.....after investigations with Gates, I believe the Mountune belts have been specially commissioned.....we have used most over the years....IIRC the peugeot 605 diesel uses the same stndard cossie cam belt.....if i were building a decent powered YB i'd use the Mountune cam belt....

 

Given the minimal price difference, that makes you a moron in my eyes .

 

Sibster is correct the Mountune ones are special cambelts..i only use those

 

no mike, ford dont do group A cambelts the same cost price as they cost me

 

so are grp A coils a load of bollox then? i need a new one and someone told me to get one of those.

 

My "old" engine from the Es Cos was rebuilt by SCS, any body know if the Gates "Powergrip HTD" belt fitted is "standard" spec or a Group A spec item

The "Group A" one is only a different Gates belt.

At least that's what it's being sold as - there's a fair chance Mountune don't have their own cambelt production line

 

Most people who have been sold a Group A one should check teh part number, as 90% of you will find its THE SAME ONE pictured above

The genuine Ford one carries a different part number of YBO200.

 

yeah i think pj's , woodford etc all sell the Gates belt as Grp A

 

I think you may need to do some research matey......i know i'm no expert but i'll think you'll find they were different....i'd suggest someone phone mountune.....

 

Hence why I said "what they're being sold as"...........

 

I presume this is a standard belt then as well as the part numbe is the same as Dougs but i seem to have extra letters after the number

see THIS was the reason for this post, im not gonna buy a group A cambelt when ican get a standard one for alot cheeper and its the same thing

im not being tight, just asking what the benifit is and whats the difference ect

how many people would pay 40 quid for a "super" burger and chips when you can buy the same meal made by the same chef for the EXACT same meal thats 15 quid

ALalso if a standard cambelt is fine for 400 bhp then why would i need a better one

do a search under "group A coil" and see what you discover thats been said ( not saying its true though, just fooking close as there could be )

please remember that ford dont actually make many parts tbh as most are made for em, just like TV's and bicycles in this world

 

Would I be right in saying that the Gates Citreon CM belt is the same one used as a grp A cossie one ??

i know that not many people make cambelts though and most get mate for others and they badge em up

like a victor reinz gasket is a ford gasket

 

the Citreon CM and Peugeot 605 Diesel belt is the SAME as a YB cossie cambelt - it even says it on the box

 

anymore hints for poeple. btw golf lifters ARE NOT THE SAME as cossie lifters incase anyone sugests that, they are similer bit NOT THE SAME !!!

we need another advice room for all these things as theres nothing worse buying things like brand new cossie oil pumps to find its just a fucking pinto oil pump with a flash cap, well i already got the flash cap so i think ill have the 25 quid one and same the 100 quid to feed my crack habit

 

and believe it or not, the Gates box even comes with a sticker on the front showing each engine the belt fits, the cam timing and TDC too

 

AFAIK these were the belts (part no. wise) that have been branded as grp'a' cam belts.....we have used them....as I have said I have seen these snap both on the dyno and on a road section on a rally....for no reason.....we did massive amounts of research about the belts which involved both our supplier and gates themselves.....after lots of argy bargy we discovered the Mountune version was specially commisioned AFAIK it has differences in the lamination.....these belts are the belts we use on the 2 wrc engines we have....never had any touble since.....as Stu etc points out in 95% of applications the standard belt is adequate.....but as it has for many years the issues surrounding mysterious grp'a' parts goes on....just because something is grp'a' does not mean its any better or worse for the application....proper grp'a' parts in my opinion should be traceable to a 909 or MS part no...

Is it std practice to change the tensioner at the same time as the belt then?

i personally do the tensioner aswell as change all woodruf keys and all bolts with loctite when i do things like this and im a moron

infact any bolts i remove to renew a item i replace the nuts and bolts as otherwise another 70k down the road there gonna be a RIGHT COOONT to undo

 

70k?? Thats a bit optimistic innit? Would have thought you'd have had several rebuilds in that time anyway...

 

mate this time is the LAST TIME that car EVER comes apart !!!!!!


hence why ive sprayed the engine bay and sorted EVERYTHING that looks like it needs doing as i aint EVER gonna do it again, next time the engines go ill be claiming off insurance
