Default ACT Temps

Me and my mate fitted our act gauges today. Mine a 200bhp s2 with bigger ic and my mates a 175bhp van with standard ic and here are our temps.

First run the van...

Idle 22'c
around town (not using turbo) between 23'c and 28'c
Booting it down dual carrageways on 18psi 40'c - 55'c

My car...

Idle 17'c
Around town (not using turbo) between 19'c and 26'c
Booting down dual carrageways on 14psi 35'c - 50'c

Are these average temps ? I dont have a clue what good temps or bad temps are ??!!

Cheers
Sam

Hi Sam,

What was the ambient temperature the day you did the tests?, this is important. It’s starting to get colder now, so your air temps are going to be lower than if you'd done the same tests in the summer.

Can't really compare two of these guages as they tend to differ a bit anyway. Only proper way of doing it is to use thermocouples.

Our FRST runs a standard cooler and the ACT's are down about the 35-40 deg but then the ambient temperature is quite low. Come summer it will be off the guage before I shift out of second gear

different boost pressure will also effect the temperature.

there was a good test in the performance ford rs turbo special magazine.

Handy info to have. As is a boost guage. You don't need them but they are usefull. If my charge temps are over a certain point I don't gun it to help protect the engine.

I'd say they are very poor results to be honest, unless you're in Phoenix,AZ and its 45C in the shade!!!!At National Day last August ,running 18 psi of boost I never seen over 32 C,and thats after 15 minutes of balls to the wall track driving.Regards Micky

idle measurments are meaningless.

55 degrees is nothing to be worried about. Check in summer though

Those temps were from during the day on my way home last night they droped rapidly !

Normal driving not using the turbo 13'c - 15'c max and booting it 30'c max.

I would recomend anyone with a turbo to get one as would i a boost gauge, it lets you know that bit more whats going on

Cheers

That is bloody terrible, especially at this time of year. As an example, running double the amount of boost as you and a bigger turbo, the most I saw at Bruntingthorpe going from 1st gear to the very top of 5th was 25c, not bad considering the ambient temperature was around 15c.

You will be seeing 70c+ in summer.
