Hub Nuts someone help im being thick
Ive snapped a drive shaft on the ka so wanna get the snapped piece out to put in a nice new stronger one, but cant seem to get the hub nut off its got a 32mm head which i have a socket for but even with a 3ft breaker bar it wont budge, the haynes says something about having to punch something out anyone the wiser??
hub nuts often have a a thin section sleeve extending from the main nut section, which is punched into a groove in the shaft, to act as a locking mechanism. This should be lifted or punched back out of the groove before you undo the nut...
maybe this is what they are referring to?
Occasionally the nut on one side is left-hand thread, which needs to be turned clockwise to undo - don't know if this applies to yours?

yeah there is a section that sticks out further than than the nut, it round but on one side has small cut out in it, do i need to nkock something down there to lift it off then?
if you look at the pic below you can see the hub nut and where its green is the cut out
thanks for help

If you can drive a screwdriver down the groove it may help. The nut is peened over into this hole.
Also the next step would be to get something to extend your 3 ft breaker bar with. I sometimes use my big trolley jack handle or a piece of scaffolding pole.
As Rich says though sometimes they are left hand threaded on one side. You can usually tell by looking at it.

yes, get the green bit clear of the slot - and you WILL need more than a 3ft bar, like Tony says get a length of pipe on it. You'll need to be doing it with the wheel on and on the ground, or someone pressing the brake.
If you have snapped the shaft then why are you removing the cv aswell?
Just pop the shaft out on its own. See pics on kaklub.
Once the hub nut is off you will need a probably need hub pull to push the cv out out.
