Default Sky+ benefits? *INSTALLED*

Has anyone got Sky+ and what do you think of it?

We have recently bought a Widescreen TV and DVD package but didnt want to buy a video, so ive opted for upgrading to Sky+ with the multi room package so i get another sky+ box and a different room, its being installed on thursday.

What benefits over the standard sky box apart from recording directly onto it?

I am on Cable (NTL) at the moment but want to get rid of it and go back to Sky, but wondering if Sky+ is worth it?

Sky+ rocks!

Series record, so i can never miss an episode of EastEnders guv

If you watch a lot of films, go for the larger memory - its hooooge

Their doing a lot of deals at the mo Tiff, get on it! You won't regret it.

They have also just changed all the package set-ups, you can really tailor it to you needs now.

pause live tv (fook knows why!!)
got it for 99quid with the extra room package which is an extra tenner a month, typical if the fookers 49 quid now.

Used to have TiVo, and installed sky+ a couple of weeks ago, rather than pay sky for the privilege, and the installation, etc... I bought everything off eBay.

SKY+'s best advantage is that you can watch and record two different channels at once, or, record two while you watch something that has already been recorded - Ideal for those wife/g'friend disagreements.

If it wasn't for my TiVo box being on the blink, I would ditch sky+, the user interface is pants once you have used others.

Media Centre PC's are a good alternative too...

If you are a little PC savvy then go for TIVO. You cant buy them anymore but plenty on eBay.

You can hack the code and plenty of the hacks are openly available.

I can get to the user interface anywhere from the web, it emails me each day to tell me what its gonna record, sits on my home network so can transfer stuff to my PC, you can upgrade the hard drives inside to massive storage etc etc

Its not easy but there is plenty of help out there on forums etc

Sky+ Rocks. End of story. Cant imagine NOT having it!!

Like eastenders? One button has it recording. 2 presses has it record every one that comes on, every week

Someone come visiting on Sunday, right at teh end of the fooking gand prix? Not a problem, just press pause and watch it later when theyve pissed off.

Cant decide which of 3 films to watch? Record the 2 you cant and watch em anytime.

No tapes, no pissin about. Beautifully menu driven.. i honestly cant think of anyway id improve it, seriously.

Take a look at a media centre pc or tivo for ways of improving... like:

-TiVO learns what you like to watch and records things for you automatically, based on your individual tastes.
-I can set TiVo to record Top Gear (like series link on SKY+), then the summer break comes, and as soon as the series starts again, TiVo picks it up, whereas sky+, well, if you have forgotten it's on... you'll miss them until you tell it to record.
-I can set TiVO to record anything that contains the word "Rally" for example, and restrict to specific categories if I want.
-Want to record a programme in the next couple of weeks, that starts with "Fif", easy, just search the two week program guide and find it. SKY+ only allows you to search on first letter for next 24 hours, otherwise, you need to know exactly which channel to look for.
....

SKY+ rocks if you've only had a VCR in the past, but trust me, sky could make the whole thing soooo much better if they learnt from others

Such a shame TiVo was too early on the market

My old man's got sky digital downstairs with all packages, for xmas last year they did sky multi room and i got sky + in my room. It's the nut's IMO. I record Home Improvement, Spin City with Series Link, Eastender's now Well worth the money, and once the warranty's up, I'm ripping the hard drive out and replacing it with a bigger one

Well worth it IMO

so its 49 quid for the box and a tenner a month on top of you usual package? Does the + box need a landline to work?

Yes all sky boxes must be connected to a landline, for the duration of your subscription with sky+ multiroom.

I have to sky+ boxes and they are very good, wouldnt bother with all the hassle of having a pc in the living room, to much clutter. One remote for sky+ versus loads of cables for pc, not to mention noise and £500+ for one that looks ok.

I'll be ordering this soon to have installed before xmas (I hope ) Trouble is the box's are the same price now so it makes sense to go for the sky+ box, but you can only have 2 per household (and i'll need 3 box's) purely because the + box's take up 2 inputs on the dish and the normal box's take up just one, a dish has 5 inputs. Oh well, one normal box it is then...

Now ordered

I stand corrected on the above, the dish only has 4 inputs, which means one Sky+ box and 2 x normal digi box's.

I only paid £98 for the Sky+ box with multiroom and another digibox and managed to get a free service call (normally £65! )for my current box (it's fucked! ) so result, will have three new box's for £98

And installed by the end of the month too

Hi all

To upgrade to sky+ without multi room is approx £270 if you are an existing customer!!! If you call up to cancel ur sky contract and tell them it's because you can't get the sky plus deal they will back down and do it for £65

Got my one recently, only problem I see is the fan is soooooooo noisy any one had the same problem???

Cheers Malc
