can too much oil pressure in the turbo feed pipe cause the turbo to smoke?
as mine smokes at idle but not on boost and after about 30 seconsd of coming to a stop. its a nigh on new T3 turbo on an 1800 zetec
everyone is telling me turbo but i dont wanna pay out hundreds until ive exhausted all avenues
Cheers

I'm sure it can mate, the oil will push its way past the seals and burn, I had this prob on my XR2 turbo, was too much crankcase pressure, changed the engine and it was fine (not saying you should change your engine AGAIN lol
)
)
the seals in a turbocharger work on the principal of there been enough backpressure in the exhaust to stop oil blowing past them
could well just be the breathers that are blocked up?

the union in the top of the turbocharger where the oil line screws onto regulates the oil pressure inside the turbocharger - the bigger the hole in the union, the more oil pressure in the bearing case on the turbo.
as gracie says
Is the oil return suitable?? ie fez t2 always smoke but it isnt the turbo its the shit return,oil cant escape quick enough, also have you removed any boxes out of the exhaust?? also common thing ppl think turbos give up when actually is less backpressure for the rear oil seal. In general if you accelerate there is no smoke but on overun and throttle after it will smoke (especially throttle after overun) also sat at lights and your engulfed in smoke from behind, its you

the exhaust as it stands is an 1800 zetec magnex, not specific for a turbo no boxes removed just rear and centre section so should be plenty of pressure
oil return i have jus done again with a 20mm pipe so thats plenty big enough, ie it matches the pipe out the turbo and made it a straight pipe, no bends etc.
the smoke has lessened a bit since i have done the oil return
cheers for ya help chaps!

the residual oil in the front main breather is because if you take the pipe off and look down the hole the crank is right behind it - any splash off the crank goes straight up it
i think we gotta look into the turbo oil feed union being too big, but then its a standard turbo un messed with to a degree, so shouldnt have wrong union on it......
