Looking into getting an aircompressor very very soon, actually, i will be getting one
what i know is to buy the best i can affaord with the largest collector tank i can affoard too.
Looking at 50 litre tanks with a 2hp direct drive compressor motor with an oil-free system
would this be ideal for hand power tools (air wratchet, air hammer, impact driver, cut-off tool, die grinder etc) and the occasional bit of spray painting?
i've seen this one for £130 inc vat etc

anyone any reviews or reccomendations?

craceland,
what you need to do is check the cfm, of the tools you intend to use
and then check the cfm that the compressor kicks out otherwise
it will strugle to run the tools.

I'm getting the same one in a weeks time, the problem you will have is that you will find it hard painting with is as you really need a some thing with a 2.5 or 3 hp motor, evert other tool will work fine on that one,

make sure you check the free air displacement
the bigger the reciever the better

and another with 100 ltr that is 14.5(fad)
get the biggest reciever and free air displacement(fad cfm rating)that you can afford otherwise power tools will struggle

i have a 2hp 50 litre one and i do the odd bit of painting. I have just fully resprayed my van.. It did fine BUT it is forever having to switch on a fill up as the tank aint big enough to hold enough air!
Will upgrade when i do another project.

I've got a 2hp 50ltr one as well. it works well for what i need it for (which is similar to what you want it for)
i noticed while walking around makro the other day they had a 2hp 50ltr one for about 80 quid plus vat.
dunno if the offer is still on, but worth a look if u can get down there.

i got a 2hp 25ltr one that has powered everything fine, even sprayed my front bumper and never caused any probs and did a top job, i just bought a silly cheap brand new 2hp one so will be binning my old one, but i powered a good few tools on my old one fine, also great for inflating bouncy castles and the like
hope that helps
