Default FAO - IT Techies

Have another computer problem and hope someone here can help.

Have re-imaged a system at work using an image that was on our servers. When the ghost finished the system repeatedly tries to login as Administrator witha password already entered.

This stay like this continously.

I have loaded the 2000 system into Safe mode with network support so I could add the PC into the domain manually and rename the system.

This all seemed to work fine and accepted everything, so I restarted the system and got to the normal login screen with username, password and domain options.

After entering all the details, the system says 'Loading settings' as it would if you were logging onto the system, but after 30 the PC restarts. and this loop is really annoying me now.

Seems there is something set to run when signing in that is stopping me getting any further.

Any ideas?

Andy

Can you log in as Local Machine Admin ?

I'd do that, then take it out of the domain, call the machine something else, thats never been on your domain before and then try re-adding it to the domain.

Is this a domain or an active directory ?

This happened when the system tried to auto login, and also after I set this onto the domain.

I can put all my own details in and the system looks to be logging in and loading up my profile... Then restarts

I'd be tempted to login in as admin in safe mode and start uninstalling software and rebooting until it starts working.

You will probably find its a registry key that auto logs on.

We use it here for cybercafe machines.

if i get a minute I will dig it out.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

We have an AutoAdminLogon set to 1 (on)

If you have this key change it to 0 (off I think)

This stops ours.

Yep that's the right key, 0 and 1. But I think he's got beyond that point now.

what user are you trying ot log on as?
could be something in the profile if it's roaming. as said.. try local admin and see what happens.

may be worth removing from the domain/directory depending on how it was built (i.e. sysprep/sidchanger etc?)
