Did they change the law then as it always used to be a requirement to have 75% light transference through the front windows and 85% through the windscreen.
I want tinted glass on our A4 as I reckon it'll look cool

My mates screen on his Golf is too dark and thats standard fit. Sickening really, but he's been told by the police he must change it, but there is the safety issue with some front tints you can't see a thing. We put ours on due to my sons problem with too much sunlight as he used to pull the blinds off.

Fellas,
From memory, you have to allow 75%light through the windscreen and 70 % through the front side's.
Basically, if it looks tinted then the chances are its illegal.
We use an approved/calibrated light meter to test and take three readings diagonaly across each window we test.
As to what happens to you then dependa on lots of factors.

the law has changed no window tint past the a pillar AT ALL ,, they are cracking down big time to, it all started a while back when someone got shot by a bloke in a car and because he had window tints witnesses couldnt give a accurate description of him
u ARE allowed lightly tinted windows in the front AS long as their NOT limo black and ALLOW 70% through!
IF stopped by old bill they can act ie : you CANT move the car until the windows are removed or the film taken off.
ps and they can still give u an on the spot fine

From: Attleborough, Norfolk,
i have limo black on all the rear windows and a mild tint on the front windows excluding the windscreen and i have never been pulled over and that was 6 months ago. loads of cops have seen me.
the law is plastic really. bit like neons, i have a corsa by da way while my fords off the road, i was passed tonight by 3 fuzz cars in ddifferent speed zones and none of them pulled me over with red leds all the way round
Tints over here are a lot heavier and legally allowed to be due to the more intense sun. My Subaru has the darkest legal here which is a film but that is too dark really at night when I reverse down my driveway so I have to put the window down.
Is it a legitimate import or a gray import? If it was legitimate, I would have thought the required design rules for the UK would have been adhered to.
They are very strict here about design rules on cars.

BTW Tiff - Very nice Range Rover, my favourite colour. Used to work cleaning them so drove some awesome ones including several Overfinch ones. Would like one one day
Why couldnt they design a better tow bar though that doesnt look like a donkey schlong

If the car has been imported then surely it must have been SVA'd and it would have been pulled up on the test???
If it is one that has been sold over her by GM then it would have had to go through and pass type approval....

I take lots of cars, people carriers etc for Sva tests m8 and it's NOT against the law to have a lightly tinted film/window on the front passenger windows.
ps if u look @ Tiff's RangeRover from different angles the front WILL look darker if NOT the same as the rear ARE
sorry i might have not typed it correctly from what i can gather the window glass is actualy tinted, it is not a film put on the glass
so what does he do if it is to dark ,but new clear glass , which he say's you can not get !!!!
hope this is clearer sorry for any confusion
