Default How good are lead additives??

I ran out of petrol today on the motorway and was walking along with my petrol can and someone stopped to give me a lift

There wasn't a shell garage about and the nearest one only sold normal unleaded. I've never used it before but didn't have much choice so filled up my can and bought a wee bottle of lead additive just to be sure.

Put the petrol and additive in and after a few turns away it went

So, is this just as good as optimax etc or would it start running crap after a while?

Lead additive or do you mean octane booster?

Personally would prefer to use SUL/Optimax.

I think your getting mixed up with Lead Additive / Octane Booster as Bill has pointed out.

There is nothing wrong with running normal Unleaded [no Lead additive required] in your RS although if its set up for super you should take it steady until you've replaced it all with super.

It was definetly lead additive. You put in 1ml for every litre of fuel. It says it protects valve seats or somethin like that.

And John i didn't know they could run with normal stuff or i wouldn't have paid £6.50 for the additive

With the petrol prices the way they are right now, would it do any damage or effect performance to continue like this??
