took a couple of pictures to help explain my problem.

first picture shows the green knock sensor plug on the side of the inlet manifold.

second picture shows (looking down between inlet manifold pipes) the cold start valve with a plug beneath it. what is this plug for and is it the correct one as i think the black plug which is in it at the moment should be the one on the idle speed control valve (which currently has a yellow plug on it).

That one you are questioning is the thermo time switch which controls the CSV. It should have a brown plug to it.

CSV - blue plug
Aux air device - black plug
Thermo time sw - brown plug
coolant temp sensor - yellow plug

If the yellow plug is disconnected or the sensor is faulty, it will run like a c unt.

i found the yellow plug right underneath the inlet manifold. plugged into the bottom of it almost you have to reach under.

since putting the plugs in the right way (hopefully) the car has been shit at starting. will take a while to fire up and then when it does it will idle normally for about 30 seconds and then stall. after this it will stall everytime i try to start it.

Usually if you leave that disconnected it will run extremely rich and over fuel. Disconnecting the coolant temp sensor tells the ECU the temperature is -40 degrees and it dumps loads of fuel into account for it. It should black smoke like fook it has that much extra fuel.

It's under neath the manifold. Easier to see from under neath.

ahhh, hmmmmmmm!!!

when i first started my car it was smoking like a twat, and i was told my turbo oil seals had seized cos the turbo lay off the car for a year with no oil in it so got some fancy breather and it stoped smoking!? i'll need to go out and check if that plug is still off or not?

It should be on. If it's not on then you sould have black smoke AND running problems. If it's disconnected and you don't have smoke/running problems, then there is something wrong with the car.
