Default DUTCH RST ENGINE REBUILD

What can i say? The cars been standard for too long. I've not kept it in decent condition and unfortunately live in a country where Ford specialists are thin on the ground.
Well, the engine's gone bye-bye and i'm not in the position to fork out shedloads to get it back to standard. So that means as much DIY as poss. Thankfully i have Rene on my side as well as my missus's old man who's a dab hand at building engines (cheers, Gerrit!). I'm gonna be getting my parts from the UK so i'll be asking you guys for help and once the engine's sorted, i'll look at the rest of the car. It's great to have a site like this....

Pics are following...

Here we go with the pics...

The engine removall

A bit of rust...

The cause of the problem....a buggered piston!

Thankfully the head (which is brand new!) has suffered....

The white in the bore of the block is why it's gonna need honing. the wall needs to be oversized to 0.5mm so if you know of some decent pistons going cheap?

Good luck with the engine build mate.

There are loads of places over here that would be more than happy to sell and ship parts over to you.

One place i use are www.burtonpower.com

However i don't believe we are the cheapest country at the moment.

sorry about the misleading text guys, the head seems fine. Just some carbon deposits on the valves. The damage is with the pistons and bore no. 2 so it's the block that will need attention. I'll check out Burton's website and see what they have. Rene, thx for the help again mate and i'll bell ya soon....

crack in the head? you've got me worried now mate... i'll ask Gerrit to take a look at it and see. the bore is a little scored and has some metal fused to it so it feels nobbly.

Got the head checked out on the w/end and thankfully there is no crack in the head ! Big round of applause to Gerrit .

Now, next step is to order the pistons then have the block rebored. Now, if any of you know where i can get the best deal for a set of mahle pistons at .5 overbore?

ta, Alwis.

Put a post in the general section.

Loads more people will respond, probably even some traders.
Stu @ M Developments will probably sell these pistons at a very good price.

Lucky you Turby.... where are you in NL??? We could do some business....

Next step is to rebore the cylinders now that ive got the mahle pistons. i'm also having the flywheel lightened and balanced along with the standard crank. I've got to get the piggyback chip installed via soldering and the -31 actuator's been added. Then i've got to find someone to adapt a cossie 2w/d intercooler so it'll fit my s2.

A quick general question.......are the standard conrods worth lightening???
