Default painting the underside

Hi guys,

How do i go about sorting out the underside of my escort, is it just a case of getting rid of any rust, and then painting it? If so, what paint should i use.

thanks in advance

Best thing is to cut all the rust out, weld in all the repair bit, then use a good seam sealer to brush over all the joints, clean the rest of the underside with a grinder useing a sanding disc, lots of degreaser and maybe a heat gun and scraper.
Then use a good qualty stone chip:

Then use a 2k paint your choice in colour to paint over that:

Resulting in a covering that should last a good few years, an it looks the nuts!!!

I spent hours spraying mine with thinners in a spray gun to remove all the old dirt and underseal.
I never removed the old seam sealer though.

Took it in and had it painted.

Matt.

In the middle of doing mine at the moment, and light surface rust is best removed using a wire wheel on a grinder:

Then the underseal comes off no problem with some encouragement from a blowtorch!

P.S. Like how ford paint it rusty red on the bare metal so it looks rusty even when it isn't!

P.S. The underseal drips when you torch it, and yes it burns
